TUNZE® DOC Skimmer 9410

Recommended for aquariums up to 1,000 litres (264 USgal.) of salt water.
Immersion depth from 140 mm (5.5 in.) to 240 mm (9.4 in.),
Dimensions without post-filter: L250 x W113 x H418 mm (L9.8 x W4.4 x H16.4 in.) 230 V / 50 Hz, 11 W
Water throughput: 900 l/h (237 USgal./h)
(115 V / 60 Hz, 15 W, water flow rate: 999 l/h (264 USgal./h)
Air capacity: 600 l/h (158 USgal./h), skimmer cup volume: .7 l (.18 USgal.).

Skimming, filtering and aerating a saltwater aquarium without power consumption is impossible. But, no unit uses less current than TUNZE® DOC Skimmer 9410. At a power consumption of only 12 W (16 W), the new DOC Skimmer has equivalent performance to much larger skimmers consuming more than twice as much power. In addition, no settings are required; it is extremely silent; it is easy to operate and it is nice to look at.

Skimmer cup (diam. 160 mm (6.2 in.)) with large capacity; also contains the foam reactor; can be removed easily.

The booster ring permits a fine adjustment of the power, thus adapting the water level inside the skimmer as required for the production of somewhat wetter foam, for example.

The removable post-filter at the outlet of the skimmer permits perfect mechanical filtration through 50 µm acrylic wadding fibres with little biological action. This ensures that no unwanted nutrient and nitrate sources develop in case of longer cleaning intervals. The filter can be filled with other filter media, such as activated carbon or phosphate absorber.

Stable base which also reduces the water velocity in the lower zone of the skimmer.

TUNZE® Hydrofoamer Silence 9410.04 is a pump specifically developed for protein skimmers. The Hydrofoamer generates large volumes of fine air bubbles with a diameter of between 0.1 to 0.3 mm (.0039 to .011 in.). It has an energy consumption of only 12 W (16 W) at an air output of 600 l/h (158 USgal./h) which places this air generator at the top of its product class. At a water flow of 900 l/h (1,000 l/h) (237 USgal./h / 264 USgal./h), it is also used to supply the aquarium water to the skimmer.

The mixing chamber with flow distributor binds an especially high amount of organic material.

Intermediate chamber with phase water: The patented Anti-Overfoaming System® prevents an overfoaming of the skimmer and regulates the skimming action according to surface tension of the aquarium water and water level. The skimmer operates independently and automatically sets its best efficiency.

Nipple for ozone connection. Ozone improves the skimming process and at the same time removes any yellowing matter in the aquarium water.

Great Skimmer

65g fish mixed reef and 10+ gallon sump. Wanted a skimmer with a rating much much larger than my current or future intentions even with 38 gallon refugium coming soon. I wanted to wait a bit before rating this skimmer so I had a chance to see what it was made of. I ran the skimmer in vineger for a few hours to get all the factory garbage off, oils, excess junk, etc... Put it in, got it adjusted (air flow) and it started swimming shortly after. It is a wet skimmer, which is fine even tho I prefer dry, it still skims great!! Water level must be kept constant or it will fill collection cup too quick. It takes a few days to get the air flow right for it to break in. Pros: Great skimmer, quiet, little expelled microbubbles, post filter can be used for media, overflow protection works great! Cons: None come to mind, other than when the water is pushed into post filter in has a very slight slaping noise of water. Might rid the noise if post filter was removed, but this is inaudible in my specific situation. But great skimmer in all!!!!! Would recommend to anybody looking for a great skimmer for heavy or light bioload!!!

9410.00 - a real skimmer

I decided to wait a year before writing a thorough review on Tunze's 9410.00 protein skimmer. Here it is. Pros: Relatively quiet (motor and air production inaudible) Controllability on air to water ratio intake (for wet or dry skimming) Easy to clean (this is important people!!) Large collection cup (larger aftermarket available too!!) Low power consumption Built in overflow protector Extreme skimmate production (yes, extreme.) Efficient Skim memory ( if it looses power you don't have to tweak it) Customer service (bar none, class A service- another important one people!!!! do not overlook this!!!) Cons: Skimmate stinks (I guess this can be a pro?) Overflow water from skimmer can be noisy depending on water level ( there are tweaks you can do to decrease the sound) Collection cup seems frail (thinner acrylic, but so far no issues, be gentle handling it though) Larger footprint ( needs a larger sump-measure, measure!) Overall, I can see past all the cons as the pros outweigh them all, including the competition for its price point to value in the skimmer range selection of up to 264g. I use this on 150g mixed reef. Tunze is real toys for real reefers. Do your research, then get your credit card out and just buy it already, you wont regret it.

Great item for the price

I am a beginner at this hobby so I have made some poor choices on equipment. When I purchased a $100 skimmer so I could save money, that skimmer stopped making bubbles after 4 months. I have been listening to mrsaltwatertank.com and he had recommended this skimmer along with a few other ones that were a bit more expensive. I thought my old skimmer was doing such a great job when it was working then I put this skimmer in my sump. WOW!!! what a difference. After a week I pulled the collection cup off and it looked like tar. The smell was almost unbearable. I will say I would have liked it if the collection cup was a little bigger. I have to empty the cup about every 4 days.

Working good now

Just like others have said the cup is a little noisy at first, i have had it running 2 weeks and it has quieted down. The pump prefilter was shoved into the standpipe out of the box and I didn't notice and it caused a few overflows and some frustration because of the extra back pressure, now that its properly assembled its working great. Even with the issue it was skimnming alot of junk out of my tank. I have had a tunze 9002 for 4 years with no problems so i hope this unit works just as well.

TUNZE® DOC Skimmer 9410

Great product. Fast shipping. Ran for a couple hours in a vinegar bath to get the mfg oils off of it, dropped it in the sump. Started pulling right away. Tunze makes great aquarium products.

Little skimmer that could

Had a 9015 years ago and fell apart was $$$. This one is made so much better and one thing is you can see redux/orp come up immediately upon turning on so efficient. The short reactor is to avoid waste coming off the bubbles which tunze observed with tall skimmer designs many years ago. That is why theirs are short. A+++

Great apparatus

I've been using the Tunze 9410 for about a month now and it's a real work horse! The skimmer is compact with a little flimsy top but all and all it works as reported. It pulls black tar looking substances from the unit into the skimmer's cup. Easy to set, never overflows. I would have given 5 stars if the owners manual was well written. But it's easy to assemble by just looking at the photo. Yes I would buy again....hopefully this will last a lifetime!

Awesome skimmer!

The skimmer is only a few days running and still breaking in. It still outperformed my previous skimmer that was rated nearly the same. Only complaint is a small sump space and the footprint was closer to 6.5" by 10" and was barely too big for the compartment that I had planned on putting it in. I would still have purchased this knowing I would need to re-arrange my sump.

Great Skimmer!

In the two weeks I've had it, this skimmer is pulling some really dark product. It foams consistently and level is very easy to control. Everything I have come to expect from Tunze.
