Tunze

In 1985 TUNZE® invented the “auto top off” system. Critics initially derided the idea as an invention for lazy people… They missed the main point: delicate aquatic life requires a constant osmotic pressure. The Osmolator® - short for Osmotic Regulator - provides this in one easy-to-install complete Kit. Only the Osmolator® provides the level of safety and reliability that comes with 25 years of TUNZE® know how.

Features

  • An optic operated mini sensor recognizes the water level precisely.
  • Displays all functions optically and sounds a signal in case of failures.
  • New Magnetic Sensor mount, so easy to use!
  • Redundant security: the main sensor is a proprietary optic sensor. Should that fail a safety float switch shuts the unit off and sounds an alarm. Even if that fails safety circuitry shuts off the pump after 10 minutes.
The Osmolator® will be supplied with low voltage metering pump, mounting magnets, tubing controller and power supply. You only need a reservoir and water!

Specifications
  • Metering pump capacity: 2.95ft: 13.74gph, 4.92ft: 12.42gph, 6.56ft: 7.13h, Hmax: 7.22ft
  • Ready for mounting with power supply unit, metering pump, hose, sensor holding device.
  • Metering pump capacity: 0.9 m: 52 l/h, 1.5 m: 47 l/h, 2 m: 27 l/h, Hmax: 2.2 m
  • The precise water level is ensured by a non-wearing optical sensor and a transistor switch without any moving parts. This sensor is insensitive to soiling, light or magnetic fields.
  • Its “automatic eye” recognizes the water level precisely; even small waves or level variations cannot irritate the unit.
  • An independent safety sensor with a separate power supply circuit and relay control ensures reliable overflow protection.
  • An electronic time controller and current limiter for the pump connected result in a higher operational safety. This unit protects the metering pump against running dry and reports an empty storage container.
  • All functions are clearly displayed by LEDs; safety messages are also indicated by acoustic signals.
  • The osmotic regulators are all operated at safety extra-low voltage.
For smaller aquariums, check out the Tunze Nano Osmolator 3152. If you need a container to hold your top off water, the Tunze Osmolator Storage Container 5002.25 is an ideal choice.

3 separate tank all fail

This was my first ATO system. It was on my 600 gallon corner and set on my sump. Can't explain why but it unloaded 15 gallons of fresh water into my system. The optical failed as did the mechanical float. So because of the rave reviews I moved it to my 150 Q-tank. This system has a 25 gallon ATO, it pumped all 25 gallons into this system sending my Q-tank system into WTF. So I moved it into my 90 gallon reef which is upstairs. All was well for 2.5 months when my daughter comes to me and says there is water coming out of the light in the kitchen. Same as the 600, the 150 Q- tank and now my 90 show. There is a problem with this system or I have a bad unit but this has been on three separate systems and FAILED on all three. Will never purchase another. It overflowed my 600 corner show ( on tile flooring) but still unexceptionable, It overfilled my Q-tank, which was saved. It overfilled my 90 gallon reef and did it so much the water ran from upstairs to downstairs through my kitchen lights. I Went with Inovative MARINE HYDROFILL . Sorry this product need a serious revamp it is junk!!! Tunze contact me and come to my house and Check it out! Do not risk this in you house if overfill can cause damage like in my home! Sorry this has failed on THREE separate systems! If I could giv e it no stars I would!!!

Best purchase ever

i don't know why I waited so long to purchase this ATO. Super easy to install and get up and running. I have my 28G nano next to my bed and you can hear the pump kick in, but it's not that bad. But no more topping off with a jug. I do like the safety second sensor too.

Not a good design

Control box is very susceptible to humidity and moisture. Why would anyone design a controller that was susceptible to moisture when it is to be used around an aquarium? I've been through 2 controllers now, and now my current one is beeping failure alerts. And no, I didn't spill water on it. Also the pump is intermittent.

Stops working after 3 months

Just like a previous reviewer mentioned, after three months of use it stopped working properly. It turns on and keeps filling the tank until the alarm goes off. I cleaned it numerous times and turned it on and off numerous times but I cant get it to work properly for more than three days until it over fills the sump. I have the older model on my larger reef tank running flawlessly for over 10 years but this newer model seems like a dud.

Good design and History

I am using this in a 212 gallon fresh water aquarium system with a sump. I have a fair amount of evaporation on a daily basis. I read the reviews and made my choice. It is well made and I have it use my 50 gallon self-filling water change reservoir as the source. As expected: it is working great. Now I have the confidence when I am away for two weeks my sump will be full. I would recommend this to someone that wants a proven performer.

This helps

This was fairly easy to set up and use and has made a huge difference in the water quality due to water evaporation.. It is really maintenance free..

Worked for a short while

When I first set this unit up, it worked great. However, one day about 2 months after I installed it I came home and my top off bucket was empty and my tank had an extra 3 gallons in it, provided by this ATO, which had malfunctioned and pumped until it could get no more RODI water and then finally shut off. I was thankful it had shut off, disturbed it had pumped so much fresh water into my tank and foolishly added a little salt mix to my tank to deal with the over-saturation of fresh RODI water this unit had pumped into it and tried again. It ran for another couple of weeks fine, then once again I came home and it had pumped all of my RODI water from my ATO bucket into my tank. Anyways, this unit works to replenish evaporated water from your tank in a nice consistent manner, until it fails, which for me wasn't very long. I don't understand how this unit's simple balloon valve (which still functions properly) failed to stop the pump all of my RODI water into my tank. Before this unit, I used the cheapest unit (at the time it was $30) I could find that received 4 stars and it worked for me for over 3 years till the pump that came with it gave out. At over 6 times the cost of the cheaper unit, I had expected this unit to perform far better and for much longer than it did.

Excellent

Best ATO in my opinion. I have used this on all of my tanks in the last couple of years. Have never had an issue with any of them. Pump is quite and very reliable.

Tunnze Osmolator 3155

Although a little pricey, the system is excellent, easy to set up, and easy to tune. A very power pump, a exact optical sensor and a back up float sensor made it worth the money for me!!

High quality product

Bought this to replace my innovative marine ATO which I purchased a year and a half ago from Marine Depot. My innovative marine ATO failed 3 times on me and the last time almost caused my tank to overflow. Should have bought the Tunze Osmolator in the first place instead of the unreliable innovative marine ATO which was about the same price as the Osmolator. Lesson learned the hard way. The Osmolator provides worry free backup systems that will audibly warn you and shut the system off after 10 minutes if for some reason the two level backup system fails. Don't even wast your time looking at any other ATO system out there. None even comes close in comparison.
