Two Little Fishes NPX Bioplastics Reactor 550 w/ Media 1L Information




NPX BioPlastics are pelletized biodegradable polymers that provide a time-released source of food for bacteria that assimilate nitrate and phosphate. As bacteria develop on the pellet surfaces, excess growth sloughs off due to the tumbling in a fluidized filter, and these bacteria can be removed with a protein skimmer or serve as planktonic food for filter-feeding invertebrates such as corals, clams, and sponges. Anaerobic zones also develop within the pellets, thus promoting denitrification there. Why bother with dosing Vodka daily when you can just use NPX BioPlastics and let the bacteria work for you?

Comments: The 550 with more than 400ml clogs like crazy. I have two, one hooked up to a mag 3, the other hooked up to a pan world pump, and both clog daily. I can get so much pressure, with the pan world, that I blow the hose off and with any more than 400ml of npx it will clog in a day. I think part of the problem is the screens, which seem to be the perfect size to catch the beads and clog up. The inlet and outlet are also to small to get enough flow. I switched to a reef octopus and in one month have had zero clogs. Converted the 550s back to use with carbon and gfo, one each. I'll stick to using the 550 for what it was originally designed for.....media reactor with sponges. One side note, the 150 with 200ml npx works great, no clogs, and low maintenance.

Comments: This product is easy to set up and provides a lot of media. I used 500ml of media and in order to get the media to "tumble" in the reactor, I had to use a larger pump. I am using a 750GPH pump which required some extra fittings to fit the tubes provided with this product. The 350-500gph they recommend just doesnt do the job!
