Ultralife

The`Ultra-V` is now available and has well been worth the wait. These units features include: water tight gasketted housing, hard quartz sleeve, inline bulb replacement, high efficiency remote electronic ballast. And what we feel is the BEST feature of all: The SIZE-- under 22" long. Great for Ponds, Fresh and Marine applications.

The "Ultra-V" Ultra Violet Sterilizers are excellent choices for Freshwater, Saltwater and Pond applications. These units are water tight and utilize hard quartz sleeves for peak performance. The design also allows for UV Bulb replacement without the need to remove the unit from it`s installed position.

Allowing for a maximum flow rates up to 1500 GPH, these units are designed to be used with your favorite water pumps.

Based on a 70,000 æW sec/cm2 (microwatt seconds per square centimeter) the flowrates are as follows:

  • 16 Watt UV Unit 430 gph
  • 40 Watt UV Unit 1000 gph
  • 60 Watt UV Unit 1500 gph
By changing the flow rate through the UV unit you will change the effective "kill power" of the UV unit.

For example: If you only allow 215 gph thru the 16 watt unit, you will effectively increase the kill power to 140,000 æW sec/cm2 (microwatt seconds per square centimeter). And also the opposite, by increasing the flow rate you will lower the "kill power".

We have included a chart to help you calculate your flow rate depending on the "kill power" needed for the corresponding Micro-Organisms.
  • Waterborne Algae 15,000 to 30,000 æW sec/cm2
  • Common Bacteria 15,000 to 30,000 æW sec/cm2
  • Protozoa (Ich) 45,000 æW sec/cm2
  • Fungi 45,000 æW sec/cm2
The "Ultra-V" is made in the USA and has a 1 year warranty on the Unit and Ballast, and 90 days on the UV Bulb and Quartz Sleeve.

solid start

It took seconds to install.had to swap plumming adapter which was pretty easy to find at local hardware store. Notice water clarity within hours. Hopefully the replacement bulb will be easy to find. Great so far.

OK.

I purchased the 40 watt unit. After a couple days the unit stopped working, I called Ultralife and they said send back the Ballast and bulb and they would replace both of them. Sent them back and they return replacements right away. Ultralife answered the phone and were very easy to work with. The Unit now works great and no leaks. Small powerfull design and very easy to set up.

Huge Hassel

I wanted this unit for my Spectra Pure system that I have set up for drinking water. From the get go it began leaking. It was a very tiny leak where two PVC parts are glued together. This unit can not with stand water pressure for any length of time. I spoke with the manufacturer and they wanted me to send the entire unit back for them to examine and find out if they needed to make changes to their design. I removed the glue where the leak was occurring and found several areas where the glue had not flowed between the two pipe pieces. Didn't work but was worth a try. Waste of time and money

FANTASTIC

Just awesome. Great size, the install is a breeze, and it cleared my water up in less than 24 hours. This is a product that really does work as advertised and I am a true believer in UV sterilization now. Only thing I should add is teflon tape is needed on the threads to make it leak-proof. You do get what you pay for with this unit.

Made well!

I bought the Ultralife Ultra-V UV Sterilizer to replace a Coralife UV that leaked more than once. I bought the Ultra-V based on the reviews and the contact time with the water. It is made well and is about 22 inches long. Some of the other brands were 40 inches or more, and I don't have that much room under my tank. The bulb is high quality. I had to go to the local hardware store to buy some fittings since the two that were supplied were too big for my hose connections. The ballast has two lights on it when it's plugged in. One LED for power, and one LED for the bulb. It is easy to see that the sterilizer is working because the body glows when it's on. This sterilizer was a little more in price than some of the cheaper ones, but not as expensive as some other. My only concern was whether or not replacement bulbs were available, but I found they are available after searching the internet.

long term: Not worth it

I've had this 40w UV sterilizer from Ultralife for over an year. The unit itself is great, small simple design and effective. However getting replacement parts is an amazingly painful process. The only place that you can order replacement bulbs or ballasts from is the manufactures website. They are extremely slow and hard to work with (they wont return any of my calls, but they reply to my emails..) I'm on month 2 (about to go on to #3) of my UV filter being out of commission. I've talked with a sales rep about replacement parts and they don't have any plans to carry them. I would recommend buying something else if you plan on getting replacement parts. Or order two to keep parts on hand, cause it takes way too long to get them.

Great Product

Product is great -- the GPH rating is really nice. I've started using the product in the last month or two -- but it's really helped out. The bulb is in a water-tight chamber -- where you can actually change the bulb without having to drain all of the water, etc. This is a "must-have" feature for UV Sterilizers.

Amazing

This UV sterilizer was easy to install. I ordered another pump to increase the flow rate but didn't need it because when I came back to look at the pond two weeks later (850 gals which had been green for years) it was crystal clear. The owner was so happy to be able to view her fish. Everybody is very happy.

Works as advertised

The Ultralife Ultra-V 40watt steralizer works as advertised. However there was some stray rf produced which was quelled by adding a grounding probe in the refugium.
