Excellent!
good movement by JACK HALL
Experience Level: Expert
Posted on 9/14/2009 from LECANTO, FL UNITED STATES
Comments: This is a fantastic wavemaker. I have never seen powerheads deliver the chaotic water movement provided by the W2K. When properly adjusted it is as quiet as the fans in my light fixtures, so I don't consider noise a problem. The moter is completely external so there is no transfer of heat to the water like there is with powerheads (discounting the small amount inevitably generated by friction). It does require space behind the tank for installation, and periodic oiling of the motor shaft. The only true downfall is the volume it will occupy in the tank. It produces a true wavelike action across the top of the water.
Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Great
Generally Satisfied by RONALD HATTIE

Posted on 2/1/2009 from PHOENIX, AZ UNITED STATES
Comments: I installed this into my 90 gal tank 8 months ago - here are my musings to date: Pros: Great water flow in the middle of the aquarium. The machine has run reliably over the 8 months without any issues (I haven't had the malfunctions some others have described). Cons: LOUD - like a locomotive going on in my living room. I tried to adjust it to get the noise under control, but finally just accepted it. Also, while the flow was great in the middle of the tank, Once I added in rockwork I had dead zones in the sides of the tank, having to add in powerheads to generate flow (The point of putting the Wave2K in was to avoid having to do this). I recently replaced this unit with a couple of Vortechs.. For a more square shaped tank the Wave2k would be great - for a long rectangle you'd need two units on the sides to avoid dead spots. If they could get rid of the belt this unit would be SOO much quieter! BTW - you can;'t use this on an acrylic aquarium (it slides down immediately inside/outside so there's now room for a lip on the top of the aquarium).
Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Not Good by ARTHUR MINER

Comments: Unit is very loud and needs constant attention. As the belts wear they drop tiny pieces of burnt black rubber into your tank. TunzeWavebox is a million times better.
I would not recommend this product to my friends.

waste of money by MIGUEL SOLORIO

Comments: I got 2 units which did not work, poor instructions, motor not powerful enough to move the water up, very noisy a waste of $600 and many hours of trying to set this up.
I would not recommend this product to my friends.

Great
Finicky but worth it by TIMOTHY WYDEVEN

Comments: I waited a year to write this review and I've had my share of trials and tribulations with this product. Here's a list of do's and don'ts for this product. DO...make sure you can get it out without destroying half of your rockwork! It needs to be serviced every now and then, so plan for it. However, the design is very simple with minimal moving parts, and servicing it is very easy. DON'T...get this product without the optional metal drive pin if you run Kalkwasser. The plastic pin gets eaten fairly quickly if you dose alot of Kalkwasser! DON'T...Get angry if it is noisy, but you will have to adjust it till it's quiet. This unit truly needs to be "tuned". If you tune it right it WILL be very quiet. Once I finally took it apart I figured out how to make it quiet. The adjustment for up and down shaft movement is very finite and will take a little work sometimes. DO...Call the folks who make it for advice. They are VERY helpful and will get you any needed parts very quickly. They can help you correctly tune it aswell. DON'T...buy this unit if you plan on sticking it under a glass top. I made mine work, but the process was not pretty. DON'T...stack heavy rockwork on the unit as it can stall the flap inside. You will also have to move that big piece of rockwork every time you need to service the unit (see #1 DO). Overall, once I figured out how to service it and dialed it in correctly I was, and am, very happy with the unit. The water movement is VERY good in my 180G with just one unit in the center and a few small power heads in the corners. The challenges of this unit are far outweighed by the sheer simplicity and servicability of this product. Have patience, it's worth it. I would love to see a few different sizes to work with different tank depths, and it's a little ugly. Those problems ignored it's a great and functional concept. Remember folks, we are all still waiting for the perfect wavemaker.
Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: I have both a corner unit and a center unit in my 75 gal. reef tank. The units I use alternately throughout the day. They keep the fish happy, and clean the gravel with the wave action.

Comments: Did numerous hours of research. Agree with others regarding the unsightliness initially. Manf. was kind enough to make 2 custom corner units for my 130. I rotate them on timers and simultaneously during peak of the day. Once system got regulated, no continuos problems. Really moves the water. You do sacrafice some space but with a larger tank, its worth the effort.

Comments: When looking at the thing coming out of the box, it looked ugly. It does take up a bit of space and is unsightly. However, it works very well and produces great wave motion. It took zero (0) adjustment to get it working properly. It makes next ot no noise - my light fans are louder. The customer service is beyond reproach. I have no complaints, other than now I have to figure out some way to conceal it. A~

Corals love plug your ears by squidkid
Comments: W2K creates realistic wave motion and fish love to play in its surge. Corals definately thrive in it. Minor issues with stall after unplugging. VERY loud and noisy.

Has pros and cons by Kenneth
Comments: The Wave2K has great cyclic water movement. However, with that said, it seemed I was constantly tweaking this device to keep it working. Has a tendency to stall if it is not adjusted just right.
Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.
