Zebrasoma veliferum
One of the largest members of the Zebrasoma family, the Zebrasoma veleferum or Sailfin Tang is one of the least aggressive members of the family and the most popular addition to marine aquariums industry wide. May show signs of aggression against other Zebrasoma, the Desjardin will most likely be harassed by other tangs (Acanthurus sp etc.). An excellend choice for controlling filamentous algae and is reported to even pick at Valonia bubble algae. Keep in a very a large tank as this specimen will reach 16 inches in length. Males and females can be housed together in very large systems.
Maximum Size: the Zebrasoma veliferum grows up to 15 inches.
Minimum Tank Size: The Sailfin Tang prefers a tank of at least 140 gallons with plenty of places to hide & swim.
Diet: The Zebrasoma veliferum is a herbivore and likes to eat Dried Seaweed (best), marine algae, mysid shrimp, Spirulina, Romaine Lettuce (blanched) , fresh seaweed, and other meaty treats.
Level of Care: The Sailfin Tang is a medium maintenance fish.
Behavior: The Sailfin Tang may act peacefully toward other fish.
Hardiness: this is a hardy fish.
Water Conditions: Keep water quality high (SG 1.020 - 1.025, pH 8.1 - 8.4, Temp. 72 - 78 F).
Range: the Coral Sea, Fiji, Tonga.
