Tunze DOC Protein Skimmers (Nano, Classic) |
Tunze DOC Protein Skimmer
The model series of the Comline DOC skimmers has been developed for an effective and modern protein skimming process in marine biotopes from 200 to 2,000 liters (52 to 528 gal.). They stand out for their compact dimensions at the same time ensuring a high foam cup capacity, and producing a very high throughput on account of their air capacity of 650 or 1,00 l/h (171 or 343 gal./h), for example, depending on the model. They can be placed directly in the aquarium or in cabinet systems with a variable water level.
At an immersion depot of 240 to 290 mm (9.4 to 11.4 inches), the Comline DOC skimmer models can be placed easily and discreetly in the aquarium directly. The inlet of fresh water can be set at between 5 percent and 70 percent. They can also be used in sumps with variable levels from 100 to 280 mm (3.9 to 11 inches). The accessories supplied have to be used to ensure the generation of a constant internal water level. The water circuit is totally open and operates at a fresh-water inlet of 100 percent; depending on model, a water throughput of 1,200 l/h or 2,400 l/h (317 gal./h or 634 gal./h) is achieved, distinctly improving the gas exchange in the aquarium. |

In case of operation in sumps, the cartridge core on the outlet pipe ensures bubble-free outgoing water. Skimmer cup and foam reactor are one unit in all TUNZE DOC skimmers. Every cleaning of the skimmer cup leads to the reactor being cleaned at the same time, and thus a very constant and efficient foam production is ensured. During the cleaning process, the Hydrofoamer remains operational and automatically flushes the jet and the air passage.
- 9005 & 9010 - In-sump (9005.400 required) or in-tank use
- 9015 - In-sump or in-tank use
- 9020 - Includes two Foam Extraction Units (9020.140) in place of the collection cups; Includes storage container (5002.25) that can be used as a skimmate collector

Tunze Master DOC Protein Skimmer
The models of the Master DOC Skimmer are easily placed in aquarium cabinets with variable level and need no adjustment for operation. They operate with TUNZE® Hydrofoamer 9400.04, which also ensures the water circulation; the open water circulation then reaches a water flow rate of 1,300 l/h (343 USgal./h), 2,600 l/h (686 USgal./h), 3,900 l/h (1,030 USgal./h) or 5,200 l/h (1,373 USgal./h) depending on model. The models 9420 / 9440 as well as 9460 / 9480 have the same technical features, only the number of Hydrofoamers varies. In case of operation in aquarium cabinets, the cartridge core on the outlet pipe ensures bubble-free outgoing water. Skimmer cup and foam reactor are one unit in all TUNZE® DOC skimmers: Every cleaning of the skimmer cup leads to the reactor being cleaned at the same time, and thus a very constant and efficient foam production is ensured. During the cleaning process, the Hydrofoamer remains operational and automatically flushes the air passage.

Tunze Classic DOC Protein Skimmer
The skimmers of the Classic DOC skimmer model series operate according to the horizontal rotation principle of the first generations, supplemented with the newly developed air production of the Hydrofoamer. Despite its very small structural shape, this unit has an excellent skimming performance, and is especially suitable for breeding tanks with living plankton. Classic DOC skimmer models can be used in sumps and tolerate water level variation of +/- 20mm (0.78") without readjustment of the air output. Skimmer cup and foam reactor are one unit in all TUNZE Classic DOC skimmers.
Delivery condition: Ready for mounting with holding device for vertical panes and horizontal glass tops up to 19mm (0.74 in). For tanks with a thicker rim, a Tunze Holder Extension M5x55mm, 3000.244 (TZ1531) is needed.
General Information In 1963, TUNZE developed the first series-produced protein skimmer with its own air production. In this rotating Venturi skimmer, the hard water jet of a pressure pump is used to produce a constant fine mixture of air bubbles, which is passed into an easy-to-clean skimmer cup by means of an effective removal system. An integrated contact pipe is used to remove protein particles from the water. The refill from the aquarium then is drawn in automatically by means of the so-called molecular compensation pressures (diffusions). This TUNZE invention of contact-skimming makes sure that no living plankton is drawn into the pump circulation.

Tunze Nano DOC Protein Skimmer
The "Nano" model series has been designed for the use in reef biotopes up to 200 liters (52 gal.) and is gentle to the plankton in operation. The DOC Skimmer 9002 removes up to 80 percent of organic waste matter, such as protein and cellulose, from the aquarium water. Very little space is required in the aquarium, and its handling is very easy. On account of their construction, these models are particularly quiet during operation. On account of the high demands in stony coral aquariums, this skimmer should be used only in aquariums with about 100 liters (26 gal.) of water. Mixed aquariums or soft coral aquariums up to 200 liters (52 gal.) can be set up without any problems.
Delivery condition: Ready for mounting with holding device for vertical panes and horizontal glass tops up to 19mm (0.74 in). For tanks with a thicker rim, a Tunze Holder Extension M5x55mm, 3000.244 (TZ1531) is needed.
Principle By means of the water jet of the Nano pump and a high-performance jet, a fine pearly air mixture is produced with is released into an easy-to-clean skimmer cup through a newly developed reflection system. The protein-containing aquarium water diffuses into the skimmer through the opening in the bottom and on the rear, which is gentle to the plankton, thus suitable in particular for breeding tanks with living plankton.

Tunze Nano Reefpack
Sometimes it is maintained that reef biotopes cannot be successful in aquariums with less than 200 liters. Nonetheless, there are more and more aquarists who operate wonderful aquariums with contents of 60, 100 or 150 liters. There is also an increasing demand for small reef aquariums. Obviously, the system must not cause any stress for the animals, and all species of invertebrates or fish should be able to live as in their natural habitat. The range of technical aquarium systems is rather limited for this class of aquariums. Most internal filters frequently develop weaknesses which have a detrimental effect on such a biotope or they are very often completely unsuitable due to the space required.
TUNZE Nano Reefpack 200 constitutes a new water treatment concept for small reef aquariums from 40 to 200 liters (10 to 52 gal.). It consists of a DOC Skimmer 9002 with a 150-liter (39 gal.) air output, a mechanical nano filter with a pump (800 l/h or 211 gal./h) and a magnet holder. The Nano Reefpack has been designed for beginners as well as for experienced aquarists. Thus, it is possible to operate a small marine or reef biotope aquarium in any standard glass tank without any complications. The water is treated on the basis of dirt removal and contains no biological stages. Like all TUNZE components, the Nano Reefpack is a modular solution, which can be supplemented with Osmolator 3155 and a Calcium Dispenser (sold separately), et cetera.
Specifications:
- Protein Skimming: TUNZE DOC Skimmer 9002
- Filtration: Nano Filter 3165 with an output of 800 l/h (211 gal./h), micro wadding 872.01 and filter bag for activated carbon and other absorbers, such as for phosphate
- Storage Tank 5002.10: with a volume of 13 liters (3.4 gal.); is used to hold the refill water
- Holding Device: the Nano Reefpack is supplied with Magnet Holder 6080.50 as a standard feature to permit mounting at any point in the aquarium (up to a glass thickness of 12mm (0.47in).
- Power Consumption: Only 20W for all components.
- Delivery Condition: Completely ready for mounting with holding device, storage tank and filter wadding.
