AquaMaxx HOB Series Protein Skimmer
The AquaMaxx Hang on Back Series I (HOB-1) protein skimmer features an incredibly responsive collection cup and an amazingly powerful submersible pump. It is rated up to 75 gallons in a design thin and light enough to be placed on a nano or other small saltwater aquarium.
The AquaMaxx HOB Series I protein skimmer removes organic waste from aquarium water. It creates a strong mix of small air bubbles and turbulent water movement to force protein, waste and other materials into a collection cup for easy removal.
AquaMaxx skimmers are computer-precision engineered and utilize the latest filtration technology to deliver the performance and value you are looking for in a protein skimmer.
EASE OF USE
AquaMaxx HOB Series I protein skimmers are easy to setup and maintain. Just move the collection cup up or down to adjust the foam level to wet or dry.
Maintenance is simple. A removable collection cup makes cleaning easy. Plus, every AquaMaxx protein skimmer includes a drain fitting for hobbyists who want to setup a separate reservoir for skimmate.
Water quality and consistency is crucial to the success of a marine aquarium. An AquaMaxx HOB Series I protein skimmer will help to ensure that success.
COMPACT DESIGN
AquaMaxx protein skimmers were designed from the ground up with the hobbyist in mind. AquaMaxx HOB Series I protein skimmers have the pump placed inside the skimmer itself to save space, reduce noise and improve efficiency.
All AquaMaxx protein skimmers are computer designed. Each unit is precision-cut and made of polished cell-cast acrylic.
PERFORMANCE
The AquaMaxx HOB Series I protein skimmer relies on a superbly crafted Italian Sicce Syncra 1.0 pump and AquaMaxx needlewheel impeller to vigorously remove waste from your fish or reef tank. Sicce pumps are well-regarded for their efficiency to move air and water. Combining these dynamic pumps with AquaMaxx protein skimmers saves users considerable energy.

Finally a great built skimmer! This is not cheap plastic. It's thick
acrylic. It even has the overflow drain to put overskim back in the system and not on your floor. I'm running it on a rimless RSM 130d. The noise level of this skimmer makes the factory skimmer feel like a jet engine lives in your den. It also blows away the finicky Tunze 9002.
If this fits your specs just buy this skimmer and put your skimmer hunt
to bed.

to start off with, this HOB is pretty good at doing its job. every day im dumping about half a cup of dark tea colored skim (note: turn off your skimmer if you are adding additives to your tank for corals and what not. this will suck it right back out.) secondly the micro bubbles do stop, but they are replaced with BB sized bubbles being put back into the tank and as they reach the surface they tend to create salt creep. i have been using this skimmer for roughly 1.5 years and the cup depth is never the same after cleaning. i usually remove this unit and do a full cleaning monthly due to the high amount of gunk build up in the pipes and bottom. other then the servicing and cup depth being constantly adjusted, the only bad thing i have to say about this is the pump is getting louder(it is hard mounted to the bubble plate cylinder which is not hard mounted to the box, causing a rattle/ vibration sound) over all for a small system this is great. the water quality is great, and the looks are better then most, but keep up on your servicing and you should be fine. (note: when you start this thing up fresh or after service, turn the pump on and suck the air out of the intake using the yellow air hose and it will prime instantly)

This is the third skimmer I've tried in an attempt to find an HOB or in-tank skimmer that works and isn't noisy. Third time lucky I guess. The first skimmer was recommended by the local aquarium store; I could hear it all over the house and took it back. The second was the Hydor slim-skim. Reviews said it was quiet, but maybe that's a relative thing. It was less noisy than the first one, but I could hear it outside the room (a study) where the tank is located. It was fairly loud, with a vibration that was irritating and that could be heard in the basement below. It sort of worked but not that great. The AquaMaxx works well, after less than 24 hours, and like another reviewer said, pretty much all you hear is some gurgling, and a bit of whooshing from the bubbles. A couple of points: I did wash it out as the instructions recommend. The skimmer was generating a lot of white foam initially but I just kept raising the collection cup until it stopped running over. Now it's producing tea-colored skimmate and the cup is about one-quarter full after 24 hours. The unit seems well-built and I expect I'll keep it for a long time. I'll also enjoy time in the study again.

I have been looking for a smaller protein skimmer for my 28g Nano Cube that actually WORKS for over a year. I've been through them all. To make a long story short, none of them really worked. I decided to try the AquaMaxx HOB Series Protein Skimmer; even though it's a little pricey. All I can say is WOW!!! It works like a champ! It was easy to install and get running. It started really making skimmate within about 2 days. My tank has never looked cleaner, clearer, and more healthy than now. Another great thing is that is slipped right into the back of my Nano tank with ease. I'm buying another one for my other tank as soon as they are back in stock! GET ONE!!

Skimmer works great. Set up was a bid of a problem. Very poor instructions. had to go to U-tube to see how to set up. I have a small O ring left over that I could not determind where it goes.

OK is all that sums it up. After having some corals bleach and filter feeders die, my shop recommended i get a protein skimmer. This thing is huge and noisy. And when starting it, it bubbled over and created a huge wet mess. The instructions are mostly just a diagram on assembly. It doesn't say some needed info, like tighten certain screws really tight to control the air flow and keep it from boiling over. But after a month of trial/error and reading every article about it. It seems to be doing its job without soaking my carpet. The fish love it, way more active. My anemone camps out underneath it. Next, I'll add some sponges and corrals and see how we do.

This is the best skimmer I have owned. I ran it in vinegar and warm water to clean and installed on my tank. It was skimming immediately. Very easy to set up and super quiet. I definitely will recommend this to anyone needing a hob skimmer.

Does a great job of filtering water but you can't leave it running very long without the cup draining your tank down to the pickup tube
