This really is my favorite power head. I have two pumps in my 180. The Magnum and a Vortech MP40. To be quite honest the Magnum may be too much pump for a tank this size. I had to reposition it many times in the beginning to find a spot where my sand bed was not constantly being blow about. The MP40 is a nice pump and has more bells and whistles, but cost quite a bit more. The Magnum is quieter and consistently pushes more water than my MP40 (although both pumps are very quite). The biggest downside is the size of the pump. It is quite large. Keep the size in mind when purchasing.

This is one of the best powerheads I've ever ran on a wave controller. It's startup is completely silent and it really pushes some water.

OUT OF THE BOX THE FIRST ONE FAILED IN AN HOUR. WAS SENT A NEW ONE AND HAVE HAD IT FOR 2 WEEKS WITH NO PROBLEMS. ONCE I GOT A HYDOR MAGNUM 8 THAT WORKED I WAS IN NO WAY DISAPOINTED IN ITS PERFORMANCE. THIS PRODUCT MOVES A TON OF WATER. I HAVE A 300 GALLON TANK WITH LITTLE IN IT FOR DECORRATONS. I ALSO HAVE VERY FINE SAND FOR SUBSTRATE. WOULD NOT RECOMEND THIS STRONG OF MOVER FOR THIS SIZE TANK WITH SAND. ITS JUST TO MUCH.

I had a bloom of algae in my tank and I couldn't figure out why. Someone told me I had a flow issue and the algae was growing in all the "dead spots". I decided that my 3 Koralia 3's were not cutting the mustard in my 225 reef tank. I picked up two of these Koralia Magnum 8's and let me tell you it really does push a lot of water. After getting the remnant algae off the rocks it has not come back and my fish and coral love the increase in flow.

Ordered 2, one was crazy noisy and then the other became noisy soon after. Two replacement impellers from Hydor fixed it. They're a year old now and making noise again, needs a new impeller again. No one stocks replacements.
