JBJ Nano-Glo 4-LED Refugium Light
Information
JBJ Nano-Glo 4-LED Refugium Light
JBJ introduces the NANO-GLO LED to upgrade your existing Nano Cube into an "In-Tank" Refugium. The NANO-GLO LED refugium light boasts 4 powerful high intensity LED`s that evenly distribute light for macro algae, and aid in the removal of unwanted phosphates and nitrates. Its innovative design utilizes a powerful suction cup to attach to the rear wall of the aquarium for mobility and secure placement.
In-Tank Refugium
The NANO-GLO was specifically designed for the 28g Nano Cube CF QUAD aquarium, which is sold with a transparent filter basket. But the design is so versatile that it can be used to light any small nano aquarium that usually cannot accommodate top lighting due to space constraints and fully enclosed canopies.
Refugium Benefits
Refugiums provide natural filtration as algae grows in a controlled area with light and water flow to export unwanted nutrients such as phosphates and nitrates. They also help stabalize the pH and oxygen levels consistently throughout the day by absorbing CO2 gas during evening hours when the main tank lights are off. And they are the perfect way to grow natural food sources that propagate and feed the aquarium naturally.
High-Intensity LEDs
These small LED`s produce an incredible 70 lumens each while only consuming 1 watt per bulb. The new higher output design still creates minimal heat and lasts an amazing 40,000 hours.
Suction Cup Rear Mounted
The NANO-GLO securely attaches to the rear wall of the aquarium via an integrated suction cup in the light housing. This compact design (3/4" width) discreetly is hidden and is placed out of the way of routine maintenance and cleaning
Filter Basket Layout
First Chamber – Place a small ball of Chaetomorpha algae which should fill up half the chamber. This will provide room for growth.
Second Chamber – Place the activated carbon bag to help remove dissolved organic compounds. Replace monthly as odor and discoloration of the water can occur.
Third Chamber – Place the mechanical sponge to prevent any loose strands of the Chaetomorpha algae (spaghetti algae) from entering the pump column. This will also help trap particulate matter and free floating debris.
Lighting the Refugium
Since pH and oxygen levels generally drop once the main tank lights are turned off, we suggest running the NANO-GLO on a reverse daylight cycle. This simply means to have a timer turn on the NANO-GLO LEDs once the main tank lights are turned off. The NANO-GLO should be turned off prior to the main tank lights turning on again.

I'm sorry I invested $60.00 on this item. It failed twice and on the second time it was out of warranty. It's only one year old. I'm pretty sure it's just the power supply. When I called to see if I could get it repaired or buy a new power cord I was informed that they don't repair them and do not sell parts. Bye bye JBJ! So I will never buy another one and the one I have will go into the ever growing pile of electronic waste. Don't waste your money!

I received my Nano Glo today and it does NOT have a magnetic mount. It has a big suction cup on it to mount it to the tank with. We will have to see how it works over time.

I am using this on a JBJ Nano Cube 28g Quad-PC tank to convert the filter area into a refugium. This works perfectly. Fits well and the magnet is the right idea for hanging this on the back of the tank. Because the light hangs tight against the glass, it makes for less light shining from behind the tank and more into the refugium.
My Chaeto algae is growing well and so are my copepods!

I have had this on my fuge for about a week, so I cannot comment on growth.
It puts out a very bright beam, very little heat.
The beam is narrow, as mentioned in other reviews.
at .75" thick, this thing can go anywhere.

It may be small however, it puts out a lot of light. I love the magnetic aspect of this light. I have it on a 20g sump and it does not take up much space. Would have given 5 stars but I have only had it for a week so I do not know if my algae is growing yet.

I used it to put a refugium in the back of a 34 gallon Solana. It's pretty much perfect for that application. The magnet is nice and made it easy to install. The lights are bright, but like laser beams so if you want to light up a larger area, not so good. For a small solana refugium, perfect. After a few months the nitrates dropped to zero and the algae is growing well.

I usually don't write a review on a product. However this one deserve it. If you're like myself who have tried many ways to light micro algae in a refugium, including DIY light. Will find this light to be one of the best. This is a very low profile lighting. I have two mounted on the side of my sump. At 8w total, my chaeto algae glow like weed.

I am using this on a biocube hqi 29 gallon. It's a little smaller then I would like. The magnet works great and the whole unit is suprisingly lightweight. Wish the LEDs spread the light out more. They kind of shoot the light straight out more then to the sides. Overall for what it is being used for it is a very good product and am happy with this purchase.
