Manufacturer Info
Digital Aquatics Aquarium Supplies
Digital Aquatics was founded in 2004 and has quickly become the most recognized name in aquarium automation. Since the company debuted the original ReefKeeper 1 (now known as the RK1) in 2004, they have gone on to create some of the most flexible, innovative and cost effective aquarium controllers on the market. The revolutionary ReefKeeper Elite (RKE) was unveiled in 2008 and the affordable ReefKeeper Lite (RKL) came out shortly thereafter to appeal to more budget-conscience aquarium hobbyists. In 2010, Digital Aquatics released a reptile version, the HerpKeeper, as well as the aptly named PondKeeper. ReefKeeper controllers simplify aquarium keeping duties by monitoring and controlling a variety of water parameters and equipment including but not limited to lighting, water flow, heating, cooling, pH and ORP.

This is an awesome product! Well worth the price! Makes everything so much simpler. Not hard at all to install. The only thing I gave it 4 stars is because the reefkeeper elite has more standby modes. Which I would like more of. Ya know, one for feeding, one for water changes , even one for just pump maintenance. Nothing bad though. It's still an amazing product.

Overall the unit feels very cheaply made. Programming can be confusing. The outlets on the PC 4 don't make any sense. 1 and 4 are rated for 8 amps while 2 and 3 are only 3! Why?? Next, the relay switches dont work properly. You can only put pumps on a wave maker on outlet 1 and 4. If you put something with a low power draw on outlet 2 and 3, like a toms aqua lifter dosing pump, it gets stuck on due to the relays!!! Almost DESTROYED my tank. Just Doesn't make sense. Take your money and RUN!

It was working great... until my Temp probe started going crazy and PH probe had to be replace within 3 months of use now my display date/time doesnt work at all. Last firmware update for this module was 2011 or 2010... GG. Was wondering why alot of people were starting to sell these on the forum with part of the package missing.

I was excited to find this deal on the controller. I have heard lots of good things. For instant PH levels its great! My problem is the temperature probe causes the entire controller to go crazy when it is plugged in. It kills power in the power unit, and caused the display controller to stop responding properly, none of the sensors seem to work. Maybe I have a dead temp probe?
The other thing I have an issue with is the fact that I can't plug in a computer and start graphing the data without removing the temperature probe (since it doesn't work it isn't a problem, but still a major pain point for me when I get the probe working) also, I am required to use windows, I don't own a windows machine, so it is quite difficult to use the software.

I always love ordering from Customer Service because I live so close. I order an item and it arrives the next day. I'm happy with the products features however the instructions were no existent! Fortunately a friend of mine has set a few up and is very familiar with them. If I hadn't had a friend familiar with them, this would have been a headache to set up. If there were a decent set of instructions, I would have given the product 5 stars.

Took advice and printed manual from Digital Aquatics before I attempted installation. Installation went smoothly. Unit works as advertised. After initial hookup I had to change outlets, witch then screwed up the programming. After reprogramming I've experienced no problems with this unit. I only wished I purchased this sooner. Knocked half star off beacuse of not supplying manual, come on it's a computer that requires programming. The quick start guide is probably good for most people though. I bought this unit instead of buying a heater controller and very happy I did. This unit will take the place of several peices of equipment I currently own. I wish I had purchased right off the bat would have saved me time and money. Also, had to calibrate the PH probe right out of the box, without the manual would have been lost. Would purchase again.

I looked at all of the available controllers on the market and all of the controller "packages" before settling on this one. It was between this and the Neptune Systems Apex Jr. with optional PH Probe. They both landed at $200.00 so it came down to features. The things that made me go with the RKL were the excellent reputation of the controller and the customer support of Digital Aquatics, the fact that you can upgrade the RKL to the RKE directly, and the modular design that makes the RKL/RKE customizable to your specific needs as well as being easily extended over time. The only thing that made me consider the Apex Jr. was that it has network features by default and the RKL requires you to buy the NET module in order to add network functions but in the end, the network functions are not a necessity and I can always add the NET module later if I decided to.The only gripe that I have about this "package" is that I would have preferred that it came with the SL2 module vs. the SL1 module as I can use the Salinity port but I have no use for the ORP port.If you buy this package then I recommend that you also buy the Digital Aquatics Float Switch kit and use the float switch with the SL1 module to use your RKL as an ATO system. All in all, this is a good deal and company shipped it quickly.
