Seachem Multitest: pH and Alkalinity Test Kit
This kit combines the pH and Alkalinity kits into one kit. This kit features a unique dye that has a pronounced color change between 8.0 to 8.3, making it the easiest kit on the market to read in that critical range. Alkalinity may be read from the same sample in 0.5 meq/L increments.
- multi-cavity plate for simultaneous testing of up to 6 tests at the same time
- includes reference for test validation
- Range: pH:7.80-8.70, alkalinity 0- infinity
- Precision: pH: 0.01 pH units, alkalinity 0.5 mgq/L

I wanted to like this test, but unfortunately it just isn't good enough. Using the plastic dropper to get the right amount of water to test is easy enough, but I found it wasn't very accurate with the small amount of water as sometimes a drop or two would stay inside the dropper and never make it into the testing tray. Using the alkalinity dropper for the titration test was nearly impossible to do without getting air in the dropper. As you are dropping drops into the test sample, an air bubble will come out and cause a smaller drop. I tried 6 different tests with the same sample and got 4 different results. Also, unless you suck up the perfect amount of the reagent, or risk contaminating it by returning the unused portion to the reagent jar, you are going to get anywhere near 50 tests out of this. I was only able to do about 15. Overall, it's just frustrating.

The pH and Alkalinity kit is very easy to use and fairly accurate. My only gripe, along with others with similar comments, is that the multi-cavity plate is very light and could be unstable if one is not careful. For the alkalinity test, stirring with one hand while dropping the reagent with the other is challenging if you don't have the plate secured. Placing the plate on a folded towel helps. Also it allows light to pass from below which could affect the accuracy depending on your ambient light.Overall it is a very good product and I would definitely buy again.

Kit seems to be accurate but kind of difficult to use. The tray sample its placed in is thin light plastic and extreme care has to be taken when mixing not to dump the sample inadvertently. Also the drop dispenser can get air in it while your dispensing and release an "splatter" of reagent that isn't nearly a drop. I have only used API kits previously and they were easier to use but I'm not sure of their accuracy. Bottom line it gets you the numbers you need.

I didn't like this test kit. The pipettes and test tray are awkward and hard to use. I also found the color change to be very subtle and hard to match with the reference card.
I also have the tetra alk test kit and would recommend it over this one. I think has a great test vial (it's square and doesn't tip over as easily as a regular test tube) and it's easier to use and read.

For the product, I have used it for years and I have found it always to be accurate as all of the MultiTest kits I use. When received I was not shipped the correct kit. However, customer service fixed the problem and shipped me the correct kit that I ordered. Prices are very comparable to the on-line store I have used. Customer service was excellent.

The kit worked very well. I ordered when getting unusually high alkalinity numbers with my Salifert kit. I ordered this one, plus the LaMotte kit and compared all three on the same sample. The results were identical. The lower cost of the Seachem kit, and the added pH test included will make me a repeat user.
