Great pump, very strong flow. Easy to install and easy to aim. Combination magnet/suction cup provides a strong hold. Comes with a detachable cone to concentrate the flow. Only wish I had seen the 12V wave setups first.

This powerhead was purchased to replace a Tunze 6025. So far, it seems an adequate replacement but, I believe the Tunze produced a stronger flow with a more compact design. While I prefer the Tunze 6025 over this model, it is still a good choice for a lot less money.

I always found the reviews with tank sizes vs. which powerhead to be the most useful, so I wanted to add one. I have a 2 in my 28 gallon bowfront and it may not be enough. I haven't moved my corals/anemone over yet, but it just feels a little weak in that size tank. I will be adding a small Rio from another tank that I am breaking down. That being said - it is a great, solid product.

I have a 15 gallon reef tank and I purchased two of these to replace a Maxi-Jet 600 that was pretty old. I love the way the corals now sway back and forth without using a wavemaker! I would get the larger size if you have anything larger than a 20 gallon and/or SPS corals. For my softies they are great though! I am really happy with my purchase.

Never had experience with these before. Provides good flow. I purchased a nano and a "1" for my 20 long tank. Kind of wish I'd have gone with two "1"s. They produce much more flow. I should have listened to what others said, it's true. Go one higher than you think. They push a lot of water, but it's pushed over a wide area, so it's not overpowering. All-in-all, great product though

This circulation pump is very powerful. In hindsight I would most likely have purchased the Koralia 2 instead of the 3; it just seems a little bit too much for my 80 gal. However, it is very easy to adjust, yet doesn't move on its own, it is very quite (assuming you put the end nozzle on securely), and is powerful enough to keep food from getting stuck in the inlet slots. All in all its great, just a little more powerful than I anticipated.

Hydor Koralia Nano - 29 G Tank
by
Shane A. Smith
Experience Level: Intermediate
Posted on 9/10/2009 from CAMERON PARK, CA UNITED STATES
Comments:
I purchased the Nano as I had read somewhere that the Hydor 1 was about 5 inches long (which is not correct BTW - it is smaller than that). I figured that that size would be too intrusive in my 29 gallon freshwater planted tank and settled on the Nano instead. I had read in previous reviews here that the Nano barely moves any water at all but I figured it would suffice for the one side of my aquarium that wasn't getting good flow. One half of the tank gets good circulation from the HOB Filter so my intention was to install this on the other half where it was nearly stagnant in the hopes that this would help combat any problems with algae. Well, this little sucker is more powerful than anticipated!! It sucked the leaves of my large Amazon Sword up to the sides of the pump. So, I had to attach the Nano to the same side of the tank as the HOB Filter (the HOB is on the back, left-hand side of the tank and the Nano is on the left SIDE of the tank) and bounce the stream off the front of the aquarium to the back right-hand corner that lacked circulation. I watched a detached root that was laying on the substrate get stirred up off the substrate and then circulate repeatedly (in an elliptical circular pattern from upper left to lower right) throughout the whole tank for about 5 minutes before it finally got caught on the root of one of the plants in the back right-hand corner. It provided just enough flow for my needs and is more powerful than you would expect. Just for the record the HK 1 is not much bigger than the Nano - I saw it in person at a local retail fish store yesterday. If in doubt, go with the 1 rather than the Nano but I am very satisfied with the Nano, especially since it survived the "wife test" (she STILL hasn't noticed that it's in there - even after 2 weeks!!).
Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments:
I am currently using the koralia nano as an additional pump in my 12gal nanocube. I have set it low in the tank using the magnets to provide circulation "deeper" in the tank. It has improved water movement and lessens a stagnant bottom. For the money it is an outstanding circulation pump that I would highly recommend in nanotanks or larger. The pump also comes with a very good factory warranty should the pump fail.

I installed one of these in the upper front corners of my JBJ 28 gal nano and plugged them into my wave timer using a multiplier plug. This sync-ed the pumps with the return jets. They have significantly increased the overall circulation in my tank, and have a small visual impact. They are quiet, and produce a flow that is not overpowering for the nano.

So far I own the Koralia Nano, 1, and 2. All are quiet and work well. The Koralia 1 had an issue with the flow piece that snaps on. It took about 10 minutes to get that piece to go on. It eventually went on and into the tank it went - works like a charm.

Overall the product performs as advertized good flow and easy mounting... had to give it 4/5 because the manifold it comes with wont stay on without glue, and they rattle when starting up other than that they are silent. I will order the 1200 next time for a good Surge. Placement is crucial, took me a few days to get it rite but the suction/magnet made it easy, works like a charm..., they keep the debris suspended well so the overflow can grab it. For the money i guess i can put up with the clatter, it could be the used wavemaker i bought from a friend seems to work fine and the action i get from it is worth it... Great pump!

I've used various powerheads, but these have been the best so far that I've used. These have magnets and will not move or fall off unlike others I've used. I have two nanos and they work great in my 10 gallon tank. If you have anything bigger than a 10 gallon tank, think about the Koralia 1-4. These are small, efficient, and very quiet. One of the best pumps I've used, look so simple yet work so well. I will be buying more Koralia's in the future for tank upgrades.

I own several K2 - K4's and these pumps never disappoint. I use mine on a 'wavemaker' and while not really designed for that, they are somewhat noisy on startup. However, the benefits outweigh the inconvenience. If you are looking to provide some motion for your ocean, then you are on the right reef with this pump.

Great little pump! Wisper quite and doesn't run hot. I have one of these in a standard 10 gallon with softies and a few LPS and it provides just enough variable flow to keep things moving without blowing them around too much. The Koralia 3, 115v is a beast! It flows so well, I hid it behind a large piece of coral to help dissipate the stream of water. So I have great movement through out the tank and the pump isn't even visible. I like!

I replaced two Penquin 1140 powerheads with two Koralia 2 in my 110 reef tank. They give me the supplemental flow I need without over powering the tank. The suction cup with the magnet outside support is a plus. The corals that don't need a strong flow have responded immediately.

I've been using a Koralia Nano pump for several months now, and just bought another. They are great powerheads; small, nice broad flow stream, reliable operation, no suction cups, and an affordable price. My one quibble is that it's a bit tricky to direct the flow because of the way it attaches to the magnet (you can't turn it too far or it'll fall off.) I've seen some of the larger versions of this pump in use at an LFS and they appear not to have this issue.

This is the third hydor I have purchased in the past several years.....I feel that these items are a wonderful improvement for aquarists. The power they generate takes minimal wattage and allow a desired directed flow for corals in my aquarium They do not fall or slide out of place and are easily removed for cleaning. I still have all three.

this thing is tiny, makes for nearly no footprint in the tank. wish the mount to the pump side was a little mote like the koralia 1. the nano is great for eliminating dead spots in small tanks. I have mine in a 24 aquapod works great to move the water from the bottom right near the intake grate. the next move is the ecotech MP20 just love the idea of a wave. but for the time 20 bucks on this is a great deal. minus one star for the mount, and the cheezy pop-on-pop-off grate cover.

These pumps don't really seem as though they are putting through as much flow as they claim. They do provide a decent amount of circulation that is not extremely directional like an aquaclear (which is a good thing). I found one thing misleading - you can't easily adjust the position of the pump just by moving the magnet. I still have to stick my hand in the tank to get it in position. It's still a lot easier to position than the common alternatives, which is why I give it 4 stars instead of 3.

Picked up two of the #4 pumps for my 150G reef tank after having a nano model and a #2 in there already over a year. The nanos located on the left at the base of my rock pile moving just enough water around and the #2 is on the lower right of the pile moving flow towards the left and also removes a dead spot. I replaced the Maxi-Jet 1200s there prior hooked up to a alternating wavemaker up top and behind my main tanks returns. The Maxi-Jet pumps do work better and are quieter with restarting with a timer due to design being different. I have replaced Maxi-Jets props over the years and had problems with one of the Jets nozzles turning due to vibration so I made the change. I can now direct the water flow much easier off the front glass or away from certain corals without that harder shot/blast of water thus not even needing a timer. These actually arent as powerful feeling as I thought they might be being the Maxi-jets 1200s are 295GPH and these are 1200GPH oddly enough. I guess it feels like double the flow of the #2. Even with the new front directional flow adaptors they are just a wider and gentler feeling flow. Dont get me wrong, they do move a lot of water, its just not the concentrated blast of the Maxi-jet as you place your hand in front of them. When I toss in food like cyclops I notice no areas on non-movement now. I like that they give you a screen for the fronts even though Ive never had a snail or fish wander in before, and the center rod for the prop is now a sturdier steel and no longer breakable plastic. The maxi-jets also were harder to place in my tank, the magnets of these make it so easy to angle, move at any height/section of the tank when corals grow with time. Its been a little over two weeks now since I placed them and I can say that my tank corals and featherdusters are moving much better and the extra flow has my star polyps and leathers looking better. I like them.
Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

An average product at best. Construction was indifferent and it worked fine for about one year. It recently stopped working so I pulled it out figuring it only needed some cleaning. I took it over to the kitchen sick and scrubbed it down. I filled the sink with water and plugged it in and ... nothing. It was then that I discovered that it was leaking current into the water. I found out the hard way. I won't be buying another Koralia.

I don't think so... even with the little flow concentrator it does not impress me in my 24 gallon tank. I use this in conjunction with a Maxijet 1200 for the return pump. The magnet for mounting is Very nice to use though. Also, I was not too happy with the limited travel it has for positioning it within the tank. I mounted it on the side and it would not adjust close to the side of the tank as I wanted it to. I ended up cutting a Notch in the ball swivel base so it would be about to move closer to the glass like I wanted it to. Then the water would flow where I wanted it to, to begin with. I would give it 3.5 stars (due to the lack of flow and having to mod it) but cannot do 1/2 stars, so I'll be a nice guy and round up to 4 stars.

Man this thing will push some water around. I didn't realize that you needed such strong water movement in an aquarium. I don't care for the size of it but I guess that's something I'm going to have to work around maybe hide it with some rock or something. The price wasn't to bad and it came with magnets to hang it with which I really liked and seems to hold very well

I just picked up a Koralia #4 at the LFS and have had it set up for just over 3 days now. At first I was a little worried about the flow being too strong as I initially plugged it in in my 90 gallon reef tank, but after a day or so my Hammer and Leathers seemed to be doing muuuuch better in terms of movement. They're moving more naturally thanks to the powerful yet gentle flow not to mention my fish are having a ball blasting through the new current in the tan :).

JEFF P
Experience Level: Intermediate

Comments:
This Koralia 3 is a great powerhead. Unfortunately it is WAY too powerful for my 29 gal. It's either stirring up sand or spraying water out of the tank. All of my soft corals are bent over from the force of this pump. And it doesn't matter where I put it in the tank. Even 3 feet on the other side of the tank, the water is turbulent. The deflector helps centralize the flow somewhat, but only makes the strength of the flow stronger. My guess is it would be great in a 55+ gal. My other powerhead is a SEIO (650 gph) and this Koralia 3 (850 gph) feels like almost double the flow of that SEIO. Other than it being too powerful for my set up, this is a great product. Well made. Magnet mount is great. WAY easier to clean than my SEIO. Everything fits together well. Definitely a good quality product.

I found that this pump works well, but isn't sufficient for my 90 gallon tank. I'll have to get a bigger one, but this one will be my 'reserve' pump, in case the larger one breaks down. My previous pump was much weaker, I purchased at my LFS; and is probably not sufficient for most 20 gallon tanks. I like the amount of water moved by this pump for the size and looks. Very pleased with the purchase, but I'll do more research next time.

I have a 75 gal tank, I bought 2 of these to replace 2 maxi jet 1200s, these are easier to move around the tank because of the magnet base. I can angle these anywhere I want to create the perfect ocean effect. These move more water with less power I highly recommend getting one size bigger than you think you will need. That's what I did and they work great.

It moves a lot of water for just a few watts. But without the nozzle on, tends to spray sideways a lot. With the nozzle, a bit too directional and high speed. Magnet/suction works great. Does not move at all.

Our local aquarium supply store has these in all its tanks, which we took as a good recommendation. They work straight out of the box and the magnet system is great. However, it does take a bit of time to work out how to adjust the direction of the flow as the heads can't be angled as much as I had expected (complicated by the fact that we have a hexagonal tank).

Great little pump. I have two of them in my 55gal tall tank, which replaced two rio 800 pumps. First reason was the rio pumps are noisy, unlike the hydor pumps which are super quiet, second the hydor's seem to move the water around in a wider path. I recomend these to anyone who has a reef tank.

Icredible flow. I put myn hand in front of the power head and it did'nt feel that strong. I guess that's because it's a wide current rather than a concentrated one. THis morning all my live rock was clean from sediment and ditrius for the first time ever. The mounting was simple and secure, and the pump is super quiet.

When I opened the box I was amazed when I held the pump in my hand. The quality of the materials used to make this product surpassed my expectations. It is about the size of an extra jumbo egg, or an egg shaped raquetball, perfect for my 11 gallon via-aqua nano reef tank. Every coral in my tank is getting loved from this little powerhead. Very impressive indeed. Instead of a single powerful stream of water blasting across the tank, the hydor koralia pushed large amounts of water allowing the whole tank to breath in one big heartbeat of circulation. Strong yet delicate water movement in the tank.

The nano produces a gentle wide flow pattern that works great for nano reefs. I have one in an aquapod 12 and two in a 20 long. The magnet/suction mounts are rock solid. The only down side is the amount of adjustment on the flow direction.

Just got two 4’s for a 55gallon mixed tank with a 2” sand bed. I was worried they would be way too much flow from most of the other reviews, but they’re not at all (sand doesn’t even move unless you point it down). Not sure what people are talking about, but anything over 75 gallons you’re probably looking at adding a third one or something more powerful. As mentioned flow is very dispersed and PH’s are fairly big, but you already knew that… Only had them for a day, but so far they seem decent and don't look too gigantic in a 55.

I have only had the Koralia 3 & 4 recirculation pumps for about 3 weeks, and so far I am very pleased with them. Being able to lower the power from 37/33watts (RIO recirculation pumps) to 12 watts for both the Koralia #3 and #4 has reduced my 150 gallon tank temperature by ~1.5 degrees while reducing my electricity cost. As far as flow is concerned you can have a concentrated flow or a more speratic flow depending on your needs. So far, my coral and anemones are very pleased with the dynamics of the flow that these KOralias produce. As far as negative aspects, I would prefer that they have better suction cup holders in order to put them in places where you can not use the magnet option. I tried to use the suction-cup option and it would not stay for more then 1 hour (it droped to the bottom of my tank and make a big mess blowing sand everwhere). However, if you use the magenet option I don't see any problems. I highly recommend the Koralia based on what I have seen so far. However, I can not recommend the reliability of these pumps since I have only had them for 3 months so far.

I've actually installed four of these pumps in various sizes in two different tanks. They work great for creating circulation with the bulk of the flow going straight ahead but with some dispersing at a wider angle. The magnetic holder is a definite improvement over the suction cups.

I purchased 2 of these for my 90 gal tank. I have plenty of other circulation /water flow devices so these are secondary. The water temp has not risen more then half a degree. They do a nice job of creating water flow and breaking up the surface water. The magnetic suction cups are great. No more loss of suction like my old circulation pumps. Nice look as well. I would recommend them.

I recently got a Hydor Koralia 2 and a 3 for my 55 gallon soon-to-be reef tank that is currently cycling. I get great random flow with the two positioned on opposite ends with my return from a 30 gallon sump shooting diagonally across the flow. If I could do it again however, I would probably have gotten two 3's or a 3 and a 4. Still a great powerhead for the price however.

As others have said, when you put your hand in front of the powerhead it doesn't seem like 240 gph, but you can definitely see flow all around. I like it because it's not a point flow and all my corals in the vacinity seem happy with it as it's not a powerful point of moving water. It's nice too that it's magnetic so you don't have to worry about the suction cup not working anymore or ever.
