The SR2 is suitable for aquariums in the 10 to 60 gallon range. The unique design places the air inlet venturi prior to the pump impeller achieving an effect similar to needle-wheel skimmers in that the impeller chops the bubbles into the water giving smaller bubbles and improved contact time. The bio-filter section includes shaved plastic "Bio-Bale" which acts as both a biological filter and a bubble trap to prevent small bubbles from returning to the tank. For in-sump use only. Required water pump is included. Experts are learning that protein skimming is critical for marine aquaria, particularly sensitive reef aquaria. As a system matures, protein skimming can become the most important type of filtration. Some of the compounds that the CPR protein skimmer will remove include: soluble proteins, amino acids, organic dyes, fatty acids, carbohydrates, enzymes, detergents, some metal ions, iodine, phosphorus, algae cells, protozoa, bacteria and tiny particles of detritus. Of all the various filtration methods available to the marine aquarist, only protein skimming removes most organic from the system before they break down into toxic ammonia and nitrite compounds. All skimmers are produced with high grade acrylic which allows for the use of ozone without discoloration or damage, and they all have removable collection cups for easy cleaning. In-sump use only. Amazed me the amount of unwanted by - product produced by the skimmer from a crystal clear saltwater aquarium. Corals seem to show noticeable benefit from the skimmer in a very short period of time.
