Description

Alkalinity is a measure of the buffering substances bicarbonate (HCO3-) and carbonate (CO3) present in seawater. The alkalinity of natural seawater being approximately 2.5 meq/l. The buffering substances are depleted on a regular basis from the water as corals and invertebrates build their skeletons/shells and as the acidic waste produced by fish is neutralized.
