Comments: the guy who came up with this skimmer really got it right this time.every one with a saltwater fish tank needs this skimmer on their system. It is easy to set easy to clean and does its job beyond expectations. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: From one hobbyist to another, you will not be disappointed with this skimmer. Just keep in mind it moves a lot of water and is a bit loud, but you will not be disappointed in its performance. Dial it in and forget it, except for the normal weekly cleaning. I have tried three major brands of re-circulating skimmers with similar performance ratings and this skimmer produced more thick brown skimmate in one day then they could produce in 2 weeks. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: This is a great product combo for the money. It is the best preforming, most consistent skimmer I have ever owned, and very easy to set as well. Craftsmanship is outstanding, it is very quiet, easy to clean, which is about every 3 or 4 days, and it only took 12 hours to break in. I am running the water level per instructions, and am collecting a skimmate that is green and brown, full of mud and particles, and is not quite as dark as black coffee, but darker than tea. It is by far the best investment I have made for this tank. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

EV-400 at age 2 by jonesmi

Comments: I have had a EV-400 with a mag 18 for over two years. It does a great job of keeping my 180 gallon mixed reef clean with over forty fish!!! The column does need to be wiped every 3 days or it becomes the sides become covered in a sludge. I clean the air valve every couple of weeks because it does get clogged with salt. I have never seen any problems with cracking or poor craftsmanship as mentioned in another review. I did notice a slight reduction in flow about 6 months ago. I then unscrewed the injection nozzle and saw it was encrusted with waste. Vinegar and a old toothbrush returned the performance to like new. Although it is a somewhat expensive skimmer I am planing on installing one on my 350 gallon frag farm when I get it running. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Unsatisfactory

Comments: To try and make this a productive review, i'm going to cut straight to the chase based on my experience after about a year using the EV400 with an Iwaki MD55RLT on a 120 gallon reef system.It does a decent job at best and that's probably just me being nice :( .Now as for quality and ease of maintenance.... 1)Thin acrylic is used on the entire skimmer so it is very fragile! 2)After nearly a year of use i'm seeing alot of stress cracks around the neck and cup of the skimmer. 3)This skimmer requires alot of maintenance IMO,the neck and cup need to be cleaned about every other day at the least otherwise you will get very little skimmate production out of it and the air valve needs to be cleaned weekly to avoid the skimmer running too dry resulting in poor production and too much adjusting of the gate valve and air valve. 4)As said above the neck (which is the main cylinder of the skimmer) gets very dirty quickly so you will need to stick your arm in it often to clean out the gunk buildup which poses the danger of damaging the skimmer,not to mention making it very difficult to maintain if the skimmer is used in a sump under the tank as you will need alot of clearance to clean the neck carefully! 5)I'm getting salt creep on the outside of the neck at the bottom of the skimmer,which is unsightly on external installations and shows poor glue joints which points towards low quality. 6)Last but not least the quality of the skimmate is subpar at best.It's watery and light yellow to very light green.Never dark and stinky ,no matter what air valve setting or gate valve setting.My DIY beckett did a wayyy better job on the same exact tank,same exact pump,same tank conditions, too bad it sprung a leak :( I can only give this skimmer 1 star for ease of removing the cup! The twist lock system is nice and convenient, but it also causes salt creep under the cup and I believe alot of the stress cracks in the acrylic come from constantly removing the cup for cleaning :/ I would not recommend this product to my friends.

EV400 with Mag 24 by Empire

Comments: I first tried the skimmer with Mag 18. It didn't work..Mag 18 is not powerful enough to drive this skimmer. I had to upgrade to Mag 24 and after 2 weeks of tuning it in, this thing is a beast. The best skimmer I've ever used. It's definitly worth the $$$. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Great After Three Days by PowderBrown

Comments: I replaced a EuroReef skimmer with the EV-400 on my 300g system. There is no comparison after only three days of use minus break in. Get it...use it! Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.
