Ecotech Marine VorTech Gen2 Pump features a new magnet, high performance plastic drive shaft screw, a revised wet frame cover and is fully backwards compatible with all VorTech pumps. The new magnet is fully encapsulated within black plastic, cannot be scratched or damaged under normal use, is more durable, eliminates rusting and requires no regularly scheduled replacements.
New features for the MP40w Gen 2 include:
A new Long Pulse Mode allows for wave pulse timings of between 2 and 60 seconds, enabling you to create slow alternating flow throughout your tank. And, you can couple multiple masters and slaves to create spiraling or gyre flow too!
A new Night Mode – one of the most sought after enhancements - enables you to set your pump to operate for 14 hours in whichever mode you select for the day and go back to Night Mode for 10 hours. Master pumps will tell their slaves to go into Night Mode as well. Your Night Mode setting will be stored for as long as you want or until you cycle power to the pump, at which point you simply program the Night Mode again.
A Pump Disconnect feature automatically shuts down your pump if the dry and wet sides become separated.
Enhancements to existing modes include:
Feed Mode has been slowed from 1000gph to 500gph to make it easier than ever for you to spot feed corals and slow moving fish in your tank with the push of a button.
A modified range of adjustment for Short Pulse Mode makes it easier for you to fine tune wave form.
A novel save function for Pulse Mode enables you to save your own fine-tuned wave, providing you an even higher level of customization, and preventing you from ever having to re-program a wave again.
A more sporadic Reefcrest Mode for both single pump systems and multi pump systems enables more pronounced speed changes constantly throughout the day
A more sporadic Lagoon Mode for both single pump systems and multi pump systems provides your tank with enhanced variability to better simulate a lagoon environment

Bracketless Design
The VorTech minimizes the intrusion of equipment in your tank by using a patent pending bracketless design; this allows the motor to be on the outside of the aquarium and uses a magnetic field to transfer torque through the aquarium wall to the propeller located in the water.
No Heat Transfer - No Heat added to the water
Due to the use of high intensity metal halide lighting, inefficient return pumps, and powerheads, many aquarists must resort to expensive equipment or loud fans to keep their water temperature stable. The VorTech induces very little heat into the aquarium because of EcoTech Marine`s patent pending magnetically coupled design which transfers motion through the glass, but not heat.
Controllable
The VorTech uses the most advanced motor technology available, allowing the water flow rate to be completely controllable. Operating on tanks between 20 and 500 gallons and producing between 100 and 3,000 gallons per hour of flow, the VorTech is the most versatile flow product on the market. The VorTech is designed to operate on gap thickness from 1/8" to 3/4".
No AC Current - No AC electricity in the aquarium water
The VorTech is safer than existing products because there is no dangerous AC electricity brought into the aquarium. This keeps your fish and corals happy and healthy, while minimizing your own risk of electrocution.

Wireless Wave Driver
The Wireless Wave Driver allows effectively infinite wave control possibilities by wirelessly linking multiple VorTech pumps together. The pumps communicate with one-another through EcoTech Marine’s proprietary Triton Protocol. Each pump must have Wireless Wave Driver in order to take full advantage of the controllability of this device.
Wave Modes
Reef Crest Random Mode- Set the pump to the maximum desired speed and the VorTech Wireless Wave Driver automatically randomizes the flow throughout your tank. The pump will rapidly vary from one speed to another to simulate the high-energy conditions of a natural reef crest environment.
Lagoon Random Mode- Set the pump to the maximum desired speed and the VorTech Wireless Wave Driver automatically randomizes the flow throughout your tank. The pump will vary slowly from one speed to another to simulate a calmer, lagoon reef environment.
Pulse Mode-When entered into pulse mode, you will be able to pulse your VorTech pump at various frequencies to create standing surface and sub-surface waves within your aquarium. You can adjust both the maximum pulse speed and frequency. The generation of surface waves within your aquarium is possible through Pulse Mode.
Sync Mode- When entered into Sync Mode, your VorTech will automatically sync with the other pumps in your aquarium. Sync Mode can be used to sync in either random modes or in pulse mode. When syncing two pumps in Pulse Mode, the pumps can be placed on the same side of the aquarium to create large standing waves in your tank.
Anti-Sync Mode- When entered into Anti-Sync Mode, pumps will pulse in an inverse timing cycle to a master pump. Every time the master pump is at the maximum speed of cycle, the pumps entered into Anti-Sync Mode will be at the minimum speed of the cycle, and vice-versa. Place these pumps on the opposite side of the tank as a master pump to create tidal currents within your aquarium.
Feed Mode
With the touch of a button, the VorTech enters into feed mode and all pumps shut down for 10 minutes to allow you to feed your aquarium.
Battery Backup Mode
The Wireless Wave Driver can also be used with the battery backup accessory.

Comments: I just got this and I stopped everything to put it on my 50 gallan tank. It was easy to install. Very easy to line up the inner and outer halves. Works almost silently. Right away I could see the amazing amount of water it can move. It kicked up a lot of detritus that my other pumps were leaving behind. Thats the best part, I just replaced 4 powerheads with this one pump.
Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: i have at the moment a 18 gallon tank with a 130 in the building stage and when my pumps on the wave maker die it was time to buy some new ones after a little thought i decided to save some money and buy the pumps now for the big tank. i was a little worried they would be too much for 18 gallon but they seem to work well enough . though i can only us the lower settings. well made product quick response on questions that i had from the manufacturer. and a really nice software program for the wave controller the ups and downs are so smooth it is hard to tell it has even changed speeds until minutes later it is obviously running faster or slower
