The first one I bought was broken, so I exchanged it. There are a couple things to know about this unit before you purchase it. First, from the description, this UV looks like it has a 3/4" barb inlet and a 3/4" barb outlet. I am not sure why it says that because the unit I received had a 1/2" barb inlet and a HOB outlet that cannot be connected to a pipe or hose. This means that all the plumbing stuff I bought to get this UV working was wasted. I had to go to HD to find a 1/2" hose with a 1/2" fitting and that was all I needed. If I had known this, I would have saved $50. I checked the Aqua UV website about this and they said that this model comes with 1/2" or 3/4" barbs... why can't they just stick with one size? Other than that, I am hoping this thing will work. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends. I'm not crazy about the HOB feature, but it was easy enough to install. This unit cleared my 1500 Gal pond in two days, and the water is now crystal clear. I like the fact the bulbs and quartz sleeves are readily available through Marine Depot. The previous unit I had was impossible to find parts for, which is why I purchased this one.
