Comments:
I got this pump to replace a get a taller head for my water shooting cranes. The VA30 only produced a dribble stream, but the VA1300 produces a steady water stream that looks more realistic. Easy to hook up. I did have to purchase a connector to use my existing 3/8 inch tube.
Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

The pump works exactly as it is supposed to except for the noise level. I have had several ViaAqua pumps in the past but none of them have ever been as loud as this one. If it wasn't for the noise level it would earn five stars.

purchased model no.3300.the perfomance of this pump is exellent for my DIY trickle filter on my 150 gallon african cichlid tank.the only reason I didn't go with 5 stars is the noise level.not super loud, but you can definitely hear it running.great product for the cost.

We had this same pump in the sump of our wet/dry for many years. We retired it to be our water and salt mixer when the tank size doubled. One of the fittings has cracked so it was time to replace it even though we could make it work in a pinch. Inexpensive and incredibly reliable!

I've have been using a small and quiet Catalina Aquariums CA-4000 for my 1300gph sump to tank return for 5 years. They are about half the cost of a VA4900. The first three pumps lasted about 1.5 years each until the motor burned up. The forth one however only lasted 0.5 year. That was the last straw, I decided to try something else. This VA4900 is much larger than the CA-4000, and is quite a bit louder as well. I've been running it for about a week, and have been worried that my family is going to complain about the increased noise level. So far they haven't, so perhaps it's just me being too critical. Because of the increased size, I'm assuming that the motor is bigger so will not burn up so quickly. If true, and this pump lasts for at least 3 years, I'll be happy with the VA4900. If not, next time I'll pay the big bucks and get a Mag-Drive.
Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Strong pump

Cryptoman
Experience Level: Intermediate
Posted on 6/22/2008 from WEST PALM BEACH, FL
Comments:
This pump is a great value. It is a lot stronger than I anticipated. The inlet and outlet have 1/2"-NPT threads, so you can interface it to just about any type of hose or accessory. However, you probably need to use at least 3/8" I.D. tubing in order to prevent choking off the flow. I tried 1/4" I.D. (inlet and outlet) and the pump wouldn't prime. There is also a large bag of fittings and accessories included with the pump. Leave it to Marine Depot to deliver a great product at a great price.

Comments:
actually... almost too powerful for what I need. I bought this to replace a protein skimmer pump that I had, a rio 2500. The reviews of the viaaqua were good so I got that, but I had to choose between a slightly lower gph and a much higher gph. Since I had tried a different slightly lower gph that I had laying around and it didn't pump enough, I figured I should go for the higher gph viaaqua. Well the new viaaqua is not only much quieter than my old rio, but so much more powerful I thought for awhile that I'd have to downgrade. My protein skimmer is working great now and I have much less noise.

Works great, plenty of extras for multiple uses. I'm using it for an in-tank wet/dry filter as my return. It returns through a under sand jet system and it works flawlessly. Easy to adjust the flow to match my overflow volume. Its alot quieter then I thought it would be for being so inexpensive.

This is a great pump for a beginner who is not looking to spend much money at all. This is a great pump for the price I payed for it. Unfortunately it is my second one that I bought in about two years, because the propeller has a tendency of giving out fairly quickly, but for the price you pay, you can buy 5 of them, and still be better off than if you bought something more expensive that will last you longer.

I purchased 2 of the ViaAqua 3300's and was pleased at first, but after about 6 months 1 of the pumps impeller failed. Could not find a replacement part so I ordred the RIO 3100 so I could have extra impellers on hand for when they go out. Now the secound ViaAqua 3300 has gone out with the same problem. I will not order this pump again , stick to the RIO pumps.

Great value! This pumps description is fully correct. It is quiet (the rubber feet help a great deal) and runs well. I have had one running as a salt water sump return pump with a 4" head for 1.5 years with no complaints, and a constant flow rate. It is my workhorse, and I just boought another for a new tank. This pump has a foam pre-filter under the cover that is easy to forget about, because the pump works so well. Don't forget to clean it occassionally.

These are now used as water circulation inside the display aquarium. They are quiet, durable and very powerful. I love these things!
