I inject CO2 mist into my high tech 75 gallon planted tank. This often causes a surface scum to form. I bought this little guy to drive a surface skimmer and to provide gentle agitation to the water surface to facilitate O2 exchange. It works perfectly. It is incredibly quiet. The only down side is the "Hang on the Back" rack is designed to fit a narrow lip edge. My tank has a plastic lip 1" wide designed to hold a glass cover. I had to modify the rack to make it work. Cheers

I ordered this product despite some negative reviews. It has worked very well for me. It really out performs my AquaClear 30 I am also using on the tank. Pros - Cannister filtration in a tiny package. I put in some filter floss around the inlet in the canister which really helps keep my water clear. Cons - The inlet and outlet tubes, spray bar and siphon are all nice but do not give many options for setup. The tubes are short which is the major limiting factor. Not a big one. Also priming for me was a pain as you have to fill the canister with water before starting which ended up being a big pain. I attribute this to where I put the canister though. Overall its a great little filter for a 5-15 gallon tank.

This product will probably filter 20 gallons for ya, It has a nice layout, however It has a horrible seal job on it. Ive wraped all of the connections with sealing tape to stop the hoses from leaking and that has worked, However there is an opening up top for you to "fill water" with and the gasket on it is broken, allowing it to spew water out of the unit. Also it appears the motor isnt strong enough, I have a bag of purigen, and a small unit of Chemi-pure, along with some filter floss inside and the unit cant suck enough water, along with me getting a lot of micro bubbles due to it not being fully sealed. Ill make it work, but prepare to spend another $10 or so on sealing tape and silicone +1 hr of your time beyond setup to get it perfect.
I would not recommend this product to my friends.

I took the plunge after reading a bad review and purchased this filter together with the Tom Aquatics Aquarium Surface Skimmer for my 5g pico tank. A perfect fit! This filter is quiet (don't hear it at all), very sturdy, the tubing is flexible and seals well. The surface skimmer can be dialed in so no cascading sounds or slurping are audible. The black and silver adds to the crystal + black look of my pico that has a black Viper 70 halide, black Taihitan moon sand, a HYDOR MINI HEATER 7.5W that comes on at night (no temperature control but is not needed) and a Zoo Med Micro Pump 104 for additional agitation. No heat issues even in Chicago summers.I suspect the other reviewer connected the Rapids filter tubing the other way around but I had no issues getting it to seal. It primes easily through the cup opening as described in the included manual. It is very solid, heavy acrylic and does not feel cheap at all.
Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

I purchased this filter for a 10 gallon tank that i was using for a hospital tank. After one week i noticed that everything around the aquarium was damp and after a closer inspection i found that a small but constant dribble of water was flowing from the opening that the power cord came from. cant find any seal or anything that seems to have come loose. Poor construction and quality.
I would not recommend this product to my friends.
