I use this with a simple DIY top off system. The setup consists of a 5 gallon bucket, a Maxi-Jet 900 pump, and a tetra whisper air pump/stone (for aeration of resevoir water). Very easy to setup and much cheaper compared to other retail purpose built top off systems. The sensor suction cups work very well too. The whole thing works like a charm. My only complaint is that the water level varies more than I would have liked; about a 2" variance. Hence the water level in my sump isn't always in my skimmer's sweet spot. That could easily be addressed by using a baffle to separate the skimmer if my sump was big enough. Still much better than manual top offs which were a drag for me since I have a lot of evaporation.
Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

When it comes to auto top off controllers all that matters is that they work. Forgetting you have an auto top off controller is the biggest compliment of the product and this simply works great.
Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

No bells and wistles, just does what it's supposed to. My back-up fail safes are the pump is in a 5 gallon bucket and is on a timer(household lamp kind) so it only fills during the day. I will never overflow more than a gallon or so, if that's even a concern. Couldn't be more "plug & play".
Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

This thing is great. I have it set up with a vacuum lifter pump (like $10), and it does a great job for adding top-off water. Instead of having to fill my tank and look after it every day, I have an extra top-off tank that I have to fill once a week or so. It's definitely a time saver, and helps to keep the tank more stable. I have a surface skimming unit. I toss the probe part in the skimmer box, and when the water dips below the intake, this thing will kick on the pump. Another additional bonus is that there are no moving parts that can get stuck and overfill your tank.
