  Description
As an external filter the Eheim Professionel Wet/Dry Filter is the first filter to offer the perfect technology of a "breathing" alternating contact with the filter medium. The bacteria colonies are rhythmically flushed and aerated. This creates ideal conditions for considerably accelerated decomposition of almost all solved pollutants.

The Eheim Professionel wet/dry filters offer efficiency surpassing that of a tricle filter. The water movement within the filter is bi-directional allowing for extended contact time between bacteria cononies, oxygen and toxinx, which are thus decomposed much more rapidly than in a traditional filter.
  • Faster decomposition of pollutants than with conventional pot filters: ammonium by 73%, nitrite by 67% faster.
  • Exchange of oxygen and CO2 is accomplished by means of displacement through the specially designed breathing tube.
  • The water output pulsates as the filter fills and empites, acheiving a wavelike action.
  • Integrated interval control for reliable operation.
  • Oxygen-rich water in constant quality.
  • Only filtered water is released into circulation.
  • 2 years warranty

How to start the Siphon on the Professional Wet/Dry Models 2227, 2327, 2229, 2329
When first setting up your filter, NEVER fill the canister up with water.  Rinse the Ehfisubstrat and put the media baskets in, close up the canister with NO water in it.  Open the tap connector of the intake pipe (IN) and apply suction briefly at the breather pipe.  The filter will automatically fill up with water.  After it finishes filling, open the tap connector of the outlet pipe (OUT) and proceed to plug the unit into an electrical outlet.  The filter will automatically start up.

When you need to service the filter, wait until it starts draining, shut off the tap connector of the intake pipe (IN), wait until the canister empties of all it`s water and the flow in the outlet pipe stops.  Proceed to shut off the tap connector of the outlet pipe (OUT) and then unplug it from the electrical outlet.  By doing this, you preserve the siphon in the tubing, don`t have to carry around a canister full of water and wont make the mistake of leaving water in the canister.

NOTE: If all the above steps have been followed and the filter is making noise but has not started up, close both tap connectors unplug the unit from the electrical outlet and lift the double tap connector unit  up, this will drain the water out of the breather tube.  Close and lock the double tap connector unit back onto the canister.  Open both the intake (IN)  and outlet pipe  (OUT) tap connectors plug it back into electrical outlet.

Excellent!
A Gill of Fresh Air by Dr. C

Comments: This product serves as part 3 of my intentionally "over filtered" 210 gal setup. The other parts are a regular Eheim Pro II Canister filter and an AquaClear over the back pouring filter. Whenever I take this Wet/Dry filter down for substrate rinsing, my fish (6 very large oscars) almost immediately begin to gasp for air at the water surface. When I power the Wet/Dry back up, they in under a minute begin to swim mid-tank again doing what us aquarium hobbyists like to have them do most --live healthily and display well. This filter comes fully loaded with everything you need (substrate & hoses) included. Setup is easy. The water dwells in the canister for a good while before ejecting in continuous waves into the tank. It has a third hose that pre-mixes air into each wave release. Brilliant design. Once set up, this filter does NOT need to be primed with water for restart of service so long as there is water remaining in the fast release hoses and their terminals are submerged (i.e. you will not get a backflow of water without submerged terminals). So if you are simultaneously doing a water change, refill the tank FIRST before reconnecting and restating the Wet/Dry. This advice probably applies to all canister filters. My ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate numbers are all well within safe ranges whenever I test. "Overfiltering" is costly, both money-wise and maintenence time-wise, but it is the only way to guarantee healthy water and long-lived healthy fish; and happy humans you co-habitate with by eliminating ALL tank odors COMPLETELY and having something they can enjoy watching with you. I watched my brother work with his 30gal tanks when I was a kid. I remember most their stink and a lot of fish loss due to the cheap inefficient filters of the era, but at times he'd get an odor-free heahtly set-up that was fascinating to watch. Don't forget the next gen inspiration aspect of what we do!
Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.
