It is currently in an external setting. It was revommended for a 3 to 4 foot vertical height application. The real set up is using 3 feet of intake tubing (5/8" ID) and close to 10' of return line (5/8" ID)..!!! This pump is more than enough. I have combined the return with a Filstar Rena plumbing parts return line (plastic u-tube) and bar (long tube with holes in it) and it is a perfect match. This pump is silent in operation. I had to touch it to make sure it was running. The suction cups allow it to sit on a surface and remain there without any vibration noise. It only comes with the 5/8" line connects and they are pretty short threaded, so you have to push the tube as far down on the connection as possible to get a good tight seal. This is a great pump for a high GPH need.... Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.
