  • Helps Activate Mechanical Filters
  • Precipitates Suspended Articles
  • Assists in Priming Biological Filter Beds
  • 1oz (29.5mL) bottle - treats 60 gallons
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:
Trans·Clear is a useful water conditioner to reduce water turbidity in freshwater aquariums or ponds when used with an effective mechanical filter. Water turbidity is caused by insoluble particles such as silt, bacteria, algae and colloids. These particles are suspended in the water and are often difficult to remove by the filter, unless it has been properly conditioned or packed. Trans·Clear is composed of a combination of unique synthetic polymeric flocculants and nontoxic polyvalent metal salts. They form a floc around suspended solids, bridging them together, producing a precipitate which settles to the bottom and/or is drawn into the filter. Through this process, the water is left sparkling clear. An additional benefit is derived from the use of Trans·Clear in tanks with new filters or aquariums which have been recently cleaned. The floc adheres to the filter materials, which makes them more effective in trapping suspended debris. The surface of the filter materials becomes more attractive and accessible to the filter bed bacteria and aids in their establishment. The bacteria in turn, utilize the floc as a medium for growth.

SPECIFICATIONS:
Contains synthetic polymeric flocculants (polyelectrolytes), nontoxic polyvalent metal salts, and buffers. Dosage: 1 teaspoon (approximately 5 ml) per 10 to 20 gallons of water.

MODE OF ACTION:
The majority of particles causing turbidity in freshwater systems carry a negative charge. The action of Trans·Clear involves two interacting processes. The polyelectrolytes (polymers) are large molecules which carry many positively charged sites along the long chains of the polymers. When a negatively charged particle contacts one of these positively charged sites, it becomes bonded to the polymer. Many thousands of these charged sites are present on the polymer for binding with the suspended particles in the water. A second component of Trans·Clear (a flocculating agent) is slowly forming a precipitate simultaneously as the polymer is removing the suspended particles. The precipitate begins to fall very slowly and increases in mass. This in turn increases the rate of descent, and it traps the suspending particles and the polymers that bind them together. Once the colloidal mass becomes part of the filter matrix, it begins to capture smaller particles and acts to condition the filter.

STABILITY:
Trans·Clear is stable indefinitely in solution.

COMPATIBILITIES:
Kordon`s Trans·Clear is compatible with NovAqua® (see below). The polymeric nature of these products complement each other and work synergistically, making each one more effective than when used separately. Trans·Clear will not harm aquatic plants. Trans·Clear should not be used simultaneously with either Hydrogen Peroxide or Potassium Permanganate.

CONTRAINDICATIONS:
Trans·Clear is not intended for use as a medication or chemotherapeutic agent. It is restricted for use as a freshwater clarifier and filtration aid.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE:
For water clarification and filter aid:
(a) Add 1 teaspoon per 10 to 20 gallons of water. Do not disturb normal filtration.
(b) Briefly stir so as to distribute Trans·Clear throughout the aquarium or pond water.
Note: To increase the effect of Trans·Clear especially in new tanks or ponds, add Trans·Clear 2 minutes after addition of NovAqua®.
(c) Use once each 24 hours until water is clear of suspended particles.
(d) At the recommended dose, 4 ounces of Trans-Clear will treat up to 480 gallons of water.

CAUTIONS:
No special cautions are required when using this product. An overdose can temporarily cloud the water due to an excess of colloids, but this is harmless to the aquatic animals.

SPECIAL NOTES:
The formation of the floc depends upon several factors, including (1) water temperature, (2) agitation, (3) time available for floc formation, (4) pH, (5) type of coagulants used. To obtain the maximum benefit of this product, the aquarist should keep in mind that: (1) Trans·Clear must be thoroughly mixed throughout the water to work properly; good mechanical filtration and aeration is important. (2) In temperatures lower than 10°C (50°F), it will require a longer period for the floc to form. The floc forms readily when water temperatures are between 20 and 25°C (68-77°F). (3) An alkaline pH will produce a more voluminous floc. (4) The coagulants used in Trans·Clear produce optimal results at a neutral to slight acidic pH.
