Scrappers will help clean algae from the walls of your aquarium. They are available in hand held units (where you will need to put your arm in the aquarium) to units attached to handles for reaching deeper in to your aquarium without getting your hands wet. Having both types on hand can help make sure every inch of your tanks glass is kept algae free.
You will also find there are two types of algae scrapper’s available, pads or blades. Pads are similar to sponges used to wash dishes, just heavier duty to get through the algae built up on your tank and are safe for use in freshwater and saltwater aquariums alike. Blades are made of plastic or metal and help to cut through harder to remove algae.
Scrapers are made for acrylic or glass aquariums. While scrappers made for acrylic aquariums can be used on glass aquariums, the opposite is not true. So make sure if you have an acrylic aquarium you buy a scraper that is designed for use for acrylic tanks.
