I started using it when my 180 gallon aquarium was first set up. I am using a RIO 1400 pump with it. A few months ago I thought I would take it off and see if it really necessary since the configuration of my canopy made access simpler if it were not there. Within a few days my water turned somewhat cloudy and my fish began looking less that pleased with the change. I turned it back on and the water cleared within 48 hours. Needless to say it will remain on my tank. In three years I have never had a leak. I have checked several times to see if it needed cleaning but found no slime or residue built up inside. I do replace the bulb every 6-9 months which is an easy replacement though rather expensive at about $50. It seems comparable to other sterilizers and paired with the performance I will not complain. I would highly recommend this product to anyone. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.
