  Description
MarineDepot.com AquaDoser

The MarineDepot.com AquaDoser is a great way to minimize daily aquarium maintenance like topping off water or adding supplements to your reef. It’s also convenient for vacationing since it tops off your tank water and/or supplements automatically while you are away.

The AquaDoser is a gravity flow device. This means no pumps are needed to top off and/or dose your aquarium. Just make sure the bottom of the AquaDoser sits higher than your sump or aquarium water level. Remember: water weighs over 8 lbs/gallon. So when full the 5 gallon AquaDoser can weigh over 40 lbs! Be certain you place your AquaDoser in a location that can safely support this weight.

Assembling your AquaDoser
Your AquaDoser will arrive pre-drilled and tapped with a down spout already installed. Slide the included tubing onto the down spout. If you’re having trouble, use a little water for lubrication and slide it on. Insert the plastic needle from the drip control kit into the other end of the tube. Close the valve and fill the AquaDoser with water to check for leaks.

Dosing Additives and Supplements
First, close the flow regulator to cut off all flow. If it takes your AquaDoser one week to dispense the top-off, you’ll want to add one week’s worth of supplement (heed manufacturer instructions). In this example, if the manufacturer were to recommend one capful per week, then add one capful to your AquaDoser. Add additional supplements, if desired. Just reference our “caution list” (below) before you proceed. Fill the remainder of the unit with RO water. Place the end of the dosing tube into your aquarium or sump and slowly turn the adjustment wheel to increase/decrease flow. Use the included drip counter to measure the drip rate (10 drips = 1ml). To dose approximately 1 gallon per day, adjust the drip rate to 4 drips every 9 seconds. This is a good starting point for the evaporation rate of a medium sized aquarium. Of course, adjustment rates may be needed depending on the size and evaporation rate of your aquarium.

Each time you refill the AquaDoser, move the flow regulator to a different area of the tubing. This helps prevent premature damage to the tubing and works wonders in extending its life. Note the hose kit will periodically need replacing as it wears out.

Cleaning the unit
Your AquaDoser may become clogged with buildup from elements like Calcium and Alkalinity. To clean the AquaDoser just soak the affected parts in a solution of 1-part vinegar and 3 -parts water. If there is a stubborn clog, increase the ratio of vinegar-to-water. Once the blockage is cleared, rinse the unit thoroughly and flush the hose set with clean water. Ensure no vinegar solution remains in the lines.

Caution
The following items should be dosed separately. Do not mix these with other additives in your AquaDoser.

  • Kalkwasser
  • Lugol’s Solution
  • Iodine
  • Garlic
  • Magnesium
  • Part B of most 2-part Solutions (Alkalinity)
  • Food Supplements (Selcon, phytoplankton, etc.)

Comments: I have used this product to dose my 638 gallon system for almost 2 years and it has preformed better than expected. It has been very helpful in turning my base rock into a deep purple to almost match my reef rock's color. I have used it to dispense calcium into 2 separate tank units-1 for main tank and 1 for my propagation tank unit.
Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.
