Nifty, I followed the directions for flow rate, and with my tap water being well water, I have gotten over 100 gallons from the first cartridge which is according to it's color changing indication, and it's only half used. All of my freshwater tanks use straight tap water and have never had problems, but I got this thing for my reef tank efforts. Only thing I can say is I don't have the equipment to be certain that it's water is the same as that from a more expensive RO/DI unit. I got this thing vs a more expensive unit not only because of the cost, but you don't have to worry about 100+ gallons per day of waste water. If it's doing it's job, it's the most economical thing on the planet, unless you live in San Diego I guess.....
Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Great
Good for intended purpose

For its intended purpose, I think this works well. Its definitely for lower-volume applications, given its relatively slow speed and low volume, but if you've got a mini or a nano and want to use DI water, its gotta be the best for the money. One word of warning: we have extremely hard water (which is why I wanted to clean it up before using it), and the filter lasted 10 - 11 gallons for me.
Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.
