Great Little Lights... by ROMEO CARCABUSO
Experience Level: Expert
Posted on 7/22/2008 from SAN DIEGO, CA UNITED STATES
Comments: I use 2 actinic/sun combo units on a 6'x30"x3' freshwater acrylic tank housing Peacock Bass, giant catfish and a school of very large Redhook and Black Barred Silver dollars and love the deep water effect that it gives the tank. I like my tanks dimly lit and the 2 units I use give just enough light to illuminate the parts of the tank where they sit. The fish also behave normally they way they would in their natural environment and aren't as nervous as they would be in a fully lit tank. At 3' tall, these lights do reach all the way to the bottom. For large reef tanks, you would need at least a minimum of 8-10 units in order to provide the invertebrates enough light if you were to use them in place of other lights. I think you'd still need supplemental lighting to get a good balance of illumination, but they are great for accent lighting. I also use the 10000k units on my large and small tree frog tanks, but again, a lot of units would have to be used to give the plants enough light. I use 4 units alone on a 12x12x18 Exo Terra terrarium I use as a Paludarium just to give the plants enough light. I have a 30x24x38 Tree frog tank that I wanted to use these units on, but it would have required at least 10 units to give the same output that my single Coral Life compact lighting unit does. I switched some of my tanks to LEDs because of the very low energy consumption and almost no heat output. If I had all the money in the world, every single tank would have LEDs for illumination. These are obviously not cheap lights and you need quite a few units if you have high light requirements. I still love them regardless.
Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Current usa Powerbrite by Reef Pimp

Comments: these are great, they produce about 50-60 lumens per watt i would have to say that this is another winner from current, once i seen them at my local fish store, i decided to redo the lighting on my 40g, i had a T5 fixture with 4x39 watt and switched it out for a T5 retrofit kit 2x39 watts and 4 powerbrite's (460nm) mounted everything to the top of my canopy and WOW! it looks like i have a halide fixture, but without the heat and high electric bill. also, i noticed new colors in my corals that i never saw before.
Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Great
led lighting by JONATHAN

Posted on 4/30/2008 from FAYETTEVILLE, NC UNITED STATES
Comments: Purchased 3 units(1 power and 2 link).Installed on 75 gallon reef tank as supplemental light for 440 watts flourescents. Lights mount very easy and are very bright for 1 watt per led. Even with main lights on led's still shine through. Overall I,m happy with product but there are some problems, lights are very focused(don't cover much space with light) and color s a little to yellow for my taste. Hopefully color will burn in a little whiter. All in all a good purchase for supplemental lighting but wouldn't buy as main source of lighting.
Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Great
LED's help add some shimmer by BILLY VINTON
Experience Level: Intermediate

Comments: I'm happy with the new UltraBrite's. I currently have a 6x 39w HO T-5 hood, these LED's were added to supplement dawn and dusk transitions from my controller. An added bonus was the shimmer affect that appears in dawn and dusk. Midday shimmer is noticeable but not apparent. I would recommend this product.

Great

Comments: I put 2 of these over my 125 gal. reef tank to add some halide type glimmer lines with my vho set up. Works great while actinics are on but somewhat washed out when the 10ks come on. Still effective tho and will be adding 1 more as 2 didnt quite cover a six foot tank.
Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Great
Nice System by CHARLES FREDERICK
Experience Level: Expert
Posted on 12/14/2007 from ORLANDO, FL UNITED STATES
Comments: Positives: Easy to install; produces more natural, shimmering light than florescent; energy efficient; low heat output; low profile Negatives:Only three units can be linked together (I have eighteen of them on my 225 gallon tank, so that means six transformers to deal with); light output less than the florescents that I had before; the connecting wires between units are only about 6" long, so the units have to be placed very close together; one of the transformers was defective and nearly started a fire inside the hood--I reccomend letting the units run in a safe place for a few hours to verify that you don't have a saftey problem.
Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.
