Comments: This is a good pump, use it as a return pump on me 30 gallon reef. Starts well almost all of the time, everyo once in a while you have to fool with it, but it pumps great, does good under head pressure. I have only had mine about 9 months so I do not know how long it will last but, so far so good Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: I've never had a worse pump in my aquarium. It came with my AquaC Remora and I got it because it got such great reviews and it was high output. It bumped the cost of the skimmer almost 60 bucks but I thought my animals were more than worth it. Now I regret ever having looked this piece of garbage. When we first got the skimmer assembled the pump was making a loud popping noise. Note that the only thing we had to do to the pump was wash it and attach it to the skimmer - no assembly required. I took it apart, cleaned the impeller and housing and put it back together but it was still popping. Everything we found on the internet said that it would eventually stop and it did but here it is six weeks later it's well on it's way to an early death. When we do water changes, the skimmer is unplugged and when we plug it back in the pump won't start circulating water until it's been removed from the water and allowed to pump air for a couple of seconds and then put back into the water. We've taken it apart, cleaned it, cleaned the housing and the same results. It powers on because we can feel the motor vibrating but the pump will not circulate until we lift it out of the water. And those are just the mechanical defects: This thing sticks out a quarter of the way into my aquarium from the back glass; it's way bigger than it needs to be and it so ugly that I went back and bought the surface skimmer just to hide the power head. Don't waste your money here; go with a Maxi-Jet. You'll be much happier and have a much longer power head life. To give proper credit, the surface did help with the skimming . . . it increased the output from our tank about thirty percent. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Below Average

Comments: It's an ok pump, however it only lasted about 2 years for me. I use mine on a top-off system so it's not even working full time. Pump stopped working after 2 years. Tried replacing the impeller, which is usually what fails. Turned out it was the main part of the motor that failed, so I had to replace the whole thing. I now have 2 spare impellers. Still beter than a REO though. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Mag Drive Pumps by RAY WELLS

Comments: Normally, in the past these have proven to be exceptionally reliable "work horse" pumps pulling yeoman duty for me on 18 Frag tank rack systems and several display tanks. I have also used them to run skimmers too. However I was a bit suprised when this last pump was ordered and then didnt work. It took a phone call to a Tech Rep at Marine Depot and some tweaking and a little work with some tools before I could finally got the pump working as advertised. Its now working like a champ as they all have in the past. Obviously quality control has fell a bit in the newer manufactured pumps. While I would still use them, Im not sure I could recommend them without some reservation. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: I bought this almost 7 years ago and used it on a Remora Pro skimmer. It was pretty quiet, strong flow, and well made...worth the $45 or so that it cost. This would make a good return pump for smaller tanks, also good for certain skimmers and other applications. The metal screws are the only bad part but you can buy different screws- no problem at all. IME the Mags are much better than Rios, no comparison there. Yes, I would recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: I bought this pump with the remora skimmer. It did a terrible noise and broke the impeller few hours later. I bougth a new impeller and the pump did the same terrible noise again so i turn off it. I would not recommend this product to my friends.

Comments: I bought two pumps for my two top-off systems and I was very disappointed to find out that the pump comes with four metal screws to retain the magnetic propeller. It does not seem to be a big problem if you are moving water on a dead fountain, but we all know how sensitive our fish and reef animals are to foreign elements including iron and metals. I would definitively not recommend this pump or any like it to anyone. Very disappointed indeed!! I would not recommend this product to my friends.
