CPR`s AquaFuge2 hang-on refugiums come in three different sizes to meet the needs of marine aquarists.
Recently redesigned with a black acrylic backing to prevent light from transfering to the main aquarium, each model comes with a powerhead and features a unique baffle system. This prevents the substrate and organisms from being disturbed yet also allows enough water to flow through the eliminate any stagnant areas.
The AquaFuge2 provides ideal growth conditions for food items, such as copepods and ampipods, to feed invertebrates and fish in the main tank.
It provides a controlled growing area for macroalgae, which can be used to reduce "nuisance" algae in the main tank and provided a "nursery" area for a variety of organisms.
In 2011, a new outlet tray was added to improve the water return system.
**Please Note: The AquaFuge 2 does not come with a light fixture, although lighting is needed to meet the needs of your refugium inhabitants. Click here for CPR Lighting Options.

Q
Is it better to have a refugium or protein skimmer on a smaller tank?
I have a 37 gallon glass tank that will be used for some beginner corals and frags but mostly fish and sea critters. I have limited space around the tank and stand. I was wondering if it would be better to use a HOB protein skimmer or HOB refugium to keep my tank in good working order and keep the sea life happy?
Thank you for your question. I would definitely recommend using a skimmer,I personally consider that it is an essential part of the filtration system for saltwater and reef tanks. A refugium is also very useful but a good skimmer will be more efficient removing organic waste from the tank, before it breaks down into a phosphates and nitrates. The refugium can be use as an additional natural filtration to remove any nutrients that the skimmer may not be removing in a heavily stock reef tank. Also; a refugium on the other end is an excellent idea If you are looking for a refuge for copepods, amphipods and other such organisms to help feed your main tank.Â

Q
What size refugium should I buy?
I have a 60 gallon standard tank 48x12x25. As of now it is a FOWLR tank, but I plan to add corals in the future. What size HOB refugium should I buy and why that size?
You should always buy the largest refugium that will fit on your aquarium with your existing equipment. The more water volume and macroalgae you have, the more stability and nutrient reduction it will provide.
This is a great product, though that should come as no surprise. CPR makes quality stuff.

If you're looking for a HOB fuge then this is it. I was running a modded AC70 but this knocks that out of the park and isn't that much more of an investment than going the DIY route. Well worth the money.Hide

This is my second HOB refugium. My first was a Reef Octopus model that was similar. It had a pipe on the outflow and was entirely clear plastic.
The result was constant overflowing of the refugium, a horrible sucking/slurping sound, and light bleed through to the main display. The supply piping had a hard plumbed connection for a very specific pump, and he HOB refugium came with the pump, the problem was it was not adjustable until customer support sent me a valve to install. Even then it took weeks to get it fully functional.
Not the case with the CPR Aquafuge2. My only concern was how weak the pump to fuge connection felt, but I compensated for that by tie-wrapping the power cord to the inlet piping so the pump's weight is getting support.
No danger of overflowing with the outlet design, and power losses are something that you never have to worry about because of that outlet.
I bought the medium and I put my heater in it as well, so it cleared up my main display area quite abit. I also use the area on the internal refugium inlet side to put a bag of chemipure elite and removed my Fluval 206 canister filter entirely as the included RIO pump has about the same flow rate as the Fluval.
I can't say enough good things about this HOB refugium.Hide
