Orthophosphates are found in natural and wastewaters. They are commonly added to drinking water as a corrosion inhibitor. The instantaneous analysis of orthophosphate by colorimetric determination provides rapid results using a standard analysis technique.

The HANNA HI713 Checker HC bridges the gap between simple chemical test kits and professional instrumentation. Chemical test kits are not very accurate and only give only a few resolution points while professional instrumentation can cost hundreds of dollars and can be time consuming to calibrate and maintain. The HANNA HI713 Checker HC is accurate and affordable.

The HI713 Checker HC portable handheld colorimeter features a resolution of 0.01 ppm (250 points) and ±0.04 ppm (mg/L) ±4% of reading accuracy. The HI713 Checker HC uses an adaptation of Standard Method 4500-P E, Ascorbic Acid method.

The HI713 Checker HC is extremely simple to use. First, zero the instrument with your water sample. Next, add the reagents. Last, place the vial into the Checker HC, press the button and read the results. It’s that easy.

Hanna Instruments is a leading manufacturer of analytical aquarium instrumentation. They were founded in 1978 and are headquartered in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. When Hanna introduced pH Electronic Paper in 1986 it literally revolutionized the world of testing by allowing millions of people in various industries to test for pH in a simple, accurate and affordable way. Hanna employees are constantly challenging themselves to improve on existing technology and to invent new testing techniques with the common goal to simplify analytical testing. This applies not only to instrumentation, but also to sensors development, reagents and chemicals. Hanna also believes in controlling the quality of their products from inception to delivery so they manufacture everything themselves, from meters and electrodes to chemical reagents and buffer solutions.

Q
How do you interpret results from Hanna Checkers
Hanna makes several Checkers for Aquariums. They all report in ppm. Every other testing system gives you mg/dl or similar units. So how does ppm translate? Who is going to pay $40.00 for something when nowhere in the documentation does it say how to interpret the results?

A
Phosphate is typically measured in PPM or PPB for the Ultra Low Range meters. This can be translated to mg/L quite easily; 1 ppm = 1mg/L. Feel free to let us know if you are looking for a different unit of measure or parameter and we will be happy to help.

Not enough reagents with Kit, instructions do not account for sleep timer on product
REVIEW
This checker is easy to use! The only negatives I would stay are:
1. The actual kit only comes with 6 packs of reagents. You need to immediately buy more.
2. The sleep timer between c1 and C2 is too short. In order to make this work, you need to mix up your test sample with the reagent BEFO...Read More

Turns off quickly
REVIEW
This little checker is worth every penny! No more trying to match colors. The little packets of powder are kind of tricky to work with so I like to get everything prepped before I turn on unit as it turns off kind of fast if you aren’t ready to go.

Times off too quickly, individual powder packets are easy to spill
REVIEW
Easy enough to use, love the digital readout instead of comparing colors. Wish the powder reagent came in a vial with spoon instead of individual packets, which are hard to empty without spilling. Wish it didn’t time down so quickly, as if you delay in any of the steps it shuts down and you have ...Read More
