Maxspect designed their Gyre pumps using crossflow technology that circulates a tremendous volume of water without creating abrasive “hot spots” that blast corals and other invertebrates. The XF250 pushes water in a horizontal pattern across the tank. The water hits the opposite side of the aquarium and makes a return trip toward the pump. It’s like a conveyor belt of water! This is called a Gyre flow pattern. Why is this a breakthrough? Instead of randomly pushing small streams of water around the tank, the Maxspect Gyre keeps all the water flushing through your reef and over your corals.

Powerheads and wavemakers use traditional impellers and propellers to create water flow. In many cases the water flow is focused on a limited area of the reef, leaving stagnate “dead spots” throughout the tank. The water velocity is very strong near the pump outlet but drops off at the far end of the aquarium. Propeller-driven wave-making set-ups create a vertical flow pattern. The wave energy tends to move the water up and down like a wave but does not actually move water around the aquarium.

What we really like about the Maxspect Gyre XF250:

  • Circulates up to 5300 gallons of water per hour
  • Eliminates dead zones behind live rock
  • Flow is fast but won’t stress corals
  • Mounts on glass or acrylic up to 3/4” thick
  • Easily programmed with the Gyre Advanced Controller
  • Maxspect is the original/official Gyre pump manufacturer

Maxspect Gyre XF250 Features:

  • Vibration-free magnetic mounting system
  • Constant water velocity in every corner of the reef
  • Twin directional flow cages provide wide gyre flow
  • Crossflow Technology circulates water throughout the aquarium
  • Access programs with the Gyre Advanced Controller

Q
Is the rated flow (5300GPH) based off of one pump or 2 connected pumps? If I have 2 pumps would my flow in theory double?

A
That is the flow rate for one unit. I have 2 in my 150 gal and only run them at 30% to prevent them from blowing the sand around.

PROS
Awesome Flow & Flexibility, especially with 2 units.
CONS
More work than ECO MP units to clean. Built in wifi for app would have been nice feature.
REVIEW
I have 2 of the Gyre 250 on my 80 gallon 32x24. They are mounted vertically on the back of tank. These pump out some serious flow. I went bigger and with 2 units so
I could dial them down- 40%, hence no noise, like others on the internet have complained about these at high speeds. With 2 un...Read More

PROS
Good flow, easy to use
CONS
Controller not intuitive, a little noisy at high flow.
REVIEW
The pumps really put out a good flow in the tank. The reason I'm giving it four stars is because the control is somewhat cumbersome and not intuitive. Other than that, good product and great quality.

REVIEW
I have this and the Ice Cap Gyre 3k and the Maxspect is way quieter. The problem with the Ice Cap and the noise is that it collect air bubbles in between the propellers. Periodically, you would have to stop the pump to release the air. With the Maxspect, even being closer to the surface of the water...Read More

REVIEW
Man this puts out some flow. I upgraded from the Gyre xf150, and the xf250 blows it out of the water (pun intended). There have been some nice improvements with the addition of some rubber pieces to help reduce pump noise. The magnetic mount has some attached on both the wet and dry sides. The rubbe...Read More

Amazing Pump
reviewerbadge
PROS
very strong and perfect for top water movment or a main source of flow for your tank
CONS
This is not Apex compatable and the dry side magnet will not stay on the glass when you remove the pump for cleaning. Small detail but a pain compaired to my other pumps being able to just drop back in place and the magnet lines them up.
REVIEW
These pumps really are great. In normal flow they are very strong even at it's lowest setting of 10% on a 4ft tank the LPS where moving like crazy. I ended up reversing the blades (Another nice feature) so I was just getting top water movement with out blowing everything around.
