Triton44 Sump - Trigger Systems

The Triton series is designed to work with the Triton method which is becoming increasingly popular as it does not require water changes, which no one enjoys. One of the main requirements for the Triton method is to have a refugium sized at roughly 10% of the display tank volume. The TRITON44 refugium will hold 18 gallons when at the highest water level setting (11.5?) allowing it to support tanks up to around 180-200 gallons.

The Triton44 has 3 Main Sections:

  • Section 1: A large refugium area equipped with a lid to prevent evaporation and reduce noise. The water flows through this section, to
  • Section 2: Used typically as the skimmer section. Water exits this section, under the aquamarine wall, through the media platform, toSection 3 leaving surface proteins in the skimmer section.
  • Section 3: The return pump section, where the filtered water is pumped back to the display tank.Configurable drain input plate has three 1" input fittings with extension pipes that allow for a 1" PVC pipe to be glued into.

The Drain Input Plate is removable, allowing easy access for cleaning any buildup or detritus that may collect over time. For custom size fittings, a blank input plate is included and can be drilled to accommodate different sizes or numbers of input fittings. NOTE: this area is not large enough to install a 1.5" standard bulkhead. It is recommended to use 1.5"male and female adapters to create your own bulkhead or using other input adapters (for example: Uniseals).

A Refugium Lid is provided to cover the refugium section. Made of clear polycarbonate to keep its structure and not warp from humidity nor temperature. This lid will help reduce evaporation and reduce noise. The top bracing of this section has a recessed lip the lid will sit flush in, for a clean look. A notch cutout in the to bracing allows multiple lights to be mounted.

Cable Hose Organizers - two are provided to help keep power cords, probe wires, and/or hoses neatly organized, located above the probe holder section and the return section.

The Probe Holder holds up to 4 probes, with one hole larger for any larger probe. The holes are countersunk and have provided o-rings for extra support to keep probes from falling through.

Quick Connect Hose Input Fittings are located in the top brace to connect 1/4" tubing from dosing or ATO. The included extension pipes extend down into a support bracket on the back wall, putting the hose outputs at the appropriate height for viewing drip rates entering the system. This also ensures that the hoses are not clogged, and will help reduce noise.

Laser Engraved Water Level Indicator helps when setting the adjustable water level inside the sump to accommodate various protein skimmers` requirements. This will help fine tune the skimmer for efficient skimming.

The Media Platform located between the skimmer and return section can be used to hold the foam filter block (provided) or other forms of bagged media. A second platform (also provided) can be placed on top of the foam filter block to separate it from the media bags, if needed.

A second adjustable wall that does not have the tabs is also provided. This allows the 2? space to remain completely open. Some may chose to drop in biomedia plates into this area.

An Algae Blocker helps prevent floating algae from escaping the refugium wall. The blocker will force water to flow under, leaving the algae floating at the surface.

The Adjustable Water Level can be adjusted from 8" to 11.5" in the refugium section. The water can be adjusted from 7" to 9.5" in the skimmer section, to help accommodate protein skimmers` suggested running levels. Utilizing the engraved water level indicators, the wall can be adjusted to the desired height, easily, and is held in place by two bolts.

The TRITON method requires a high flow rate through the sump, compared to other methods. Water noise and splashing may be an issue, depending on your flow settings, which is why both levels are configurable to help fine tune, based on individual needs.
