Filter socks are the most convenient form of mechanical filtration. They remove excess food, detritus, organic waste, dust, and other particulates. Removing these particulates from the water column will reduce the amount of organic matter that produces ammonia and other undesirable substances in the aquarium. Filter socks also help prevent larger objects, such as sand, crabs, snails, etc. from damaging pump motors. Regular filter sock use will lower organic levels and result in CRYSTAL CLEAR WATER!

*NOTE: Please rinse all filter socks prior to first use

Manufacturer information

AquaMaxx
AquaMaxx is a Southern California-based aquarium supply company that entered the market in mid-2008 with a line of affordable metal halide bulbs. The brand quickly gained recognition as word spread about the high quality and low cost of their lamps. In 2009, AquaMaxx released a line of aquarium filter socks and, in early 2010, unveiled an assortment of high-performance protein skimmer accessories and upgrades.

Quality Filter Sock

Pros: Universal, high quality, good price!

Cons: If I were given a nickel for every filter sock I’ve purchased, I’d be a VERY rich man!

High quality filter floss and good stitch work done around the top- should last me years if I could figure out the best way to wash these things!

Another Great Product

Pros: Great Product

Cons: None

I really dont like filter socks. But they are the easiest way to clear up an aquarium. I really like how clear they make the water. Good Product, Just rinse them before you use them. I will be ordering more!

Avoid at All Cost

Pros: none

Cons: fabrics fall off easily making the protein skimmer go nuts

I just purchased 4 of these filter socks and I am hugely regretting the fact that I bought not one but 4 of these low quality filters! These filters contain fabrics that just fall easily off and it i's making my protein skimmer go nuts. I understand new filters may cause skimmers to go crazy for couple minutes but It's being going crazy for 6 hours now... I can easily just touch the filters and I would get all these fabrics in my hands... I did pre-wash the filter by the way. Wasted my hard earned money.

Sock it

So far so good. The material feels good. It's in my sump now so we'll see how it does. Little doubt it'll be fine. I've tried a few so far with the Eshopps at the top of my list. The next test will be to see how it makes it through the washing machine but I think it'll be fine. The material seems to be very much like the Eshopps brand. The only difference I see is that the AquaMaxx has sewn seams where the Eshoppps has welded plastic. I don't know that I have a preference as long as it works. We shall see..... This is a 7" sock although the header above suggests that it's a 4". Not that there's probably any difference.

Excellent quality

These filters are awesome. Good quality through and through. Let me tell you about my experience with "off-brand" filters. I decided to save a little money and order my filters in bulk from Amazon. I bought a pack of 10 for about $50 bucks. Good deal right? Wrong. When I received the filters, about half of them had warped openings and the filter material was low grade at best. I tried to make one of them fit in my sump but broke the filter housing in the process. Aaarrrgh! A little epoxy saved the day but a crisis I could have averted. NEVER again!
