AquaMaxx ConeS In-Sump Protein Skimmer

AquaMaxx ConeS Series In-Sump Protein Skimmers efficiently remove organic waste from aquarium water. The hybrid cone body, the advanced bubble chamber and the proprietary conical diffusers work synergistically to efficiently mix air and water. More importantly, random twirling and turbulent flow is eliminated. A stable laminar flow is created inside the skimmer`s reaction chamber and maximizes the performance and efficiency of the skimmer like no other design!

Achieve a stable laminar flow and maximize performance and efficiency!

In conjunction with the innovative bubble chamber, a powerful needle wheel pump generates optimally-sized air bubbles that force protein, waste and other materials through the hybrid cone body and into a collection cup for easy removal. The AquaMaxx ConeS Series is rated for aquariums 90-800 gallons yet are small enough to be concealed in a sump underneath your aquarium.

Computer-precision engineered and outfit with the latest filtration technology, AquaMaxx protein skimmers are engineered to deliver the performance and value you are looking for in a skimmer.

AquaMaxx ConeS Series Skimmers are built using a brilliantly polished cell-cast acrylic. They incorporate the high-end features hardcore hobbyists demand at a price everyone can afford. The ConeS Series is equipped with advanced bubble chambers, hybrid-cone bodies, air silencers and needle wheel impellers for maximum performance, efficiency and whisper quiet operation. They also have compact footprints to make installation as easy as possible.

AquaMaxx ConeS Skimmers feature high-quality Italian-made Sicce pumps. Each Sicce pump motor block is then modified and fitted with proprietary AquaMaxx needle wheel impellers. With the precise modifications and upgrades, performance is boosted much beyond that of a stock pump. The upgraded AquaMaxx ‘Shark’ pump is capable of drawing in significantly more air and chops them up to the optimum bubble size for protein extraction. These pump and protein skimmer combinations deliver unprecedented performance and reliability. Accumulated protein and organics will be vigorously removed from your tank so you can focus less on maintenance and more on enjoying your piece of the reef.

AquaMaxx Cone-Series Protein Skimmers are designed from the ground up with the hobbyist in mind. A built-in air intake silencer reduces noise for near-silent operation. The hybrid-cone design maximizes the size of the reaction chamber and to allow the skimmate to smoothly rise into the collection cup. The advanced Bubble Chamber decreases turbulence and produced a stable laminar flow: which improves bubble transition and boosts skimmer performance.

Manufacturer information

AquaMaxx is a Southern California-based aquarium supply company that entered the market in mid-2008 with a line of affordable metal halide bulbs. The brand quickly gained recognition as word spread about the high quality and low cost of their lamps. In 2009, AquaMaxx released a line of aquarium filter socks and, in early 2010, unveiled an assortment of high-performance protein skimmer accessories and upgrades.

Works great but fragile

Pros: Works great, looks

Cons: Acrylic seems fragile

The first one o received was destroyed from shipping, not marine depots fault...the second one I received had a bad pump out of the box...once I got one that works and wasn’t broken...I can say on my 90g reef this thing starting pulling crap out immediately...I don’t have much experience with skimmers, this one looks amazing.but the acrylic is so fragile and and seems like it could break apart easily.bur price is good and it’s working well so.

Big fan of this skimmer

Pros: Small footprint, works perfectly, uses sicce pump

Cons: Little frustrating to clean and take apart

The design of the skimmer allow it to fit in tight spaces as compared to other skimmers of the same water volume rating.

Great unit for the price

Pros: Pros: - Quiet, efficient and powerful

Cons: Cons: Drain tube is useless (very short) and can't seem to find any reference as to what size inside diameter it might be. Also, controlling the air ratio of skimmer is as flakey as the cheaper models out there, wish this was a tad better for the price.

Great unit, does a great job in collecting the waste!

Good skimmer

Pros: Powerful, quiet, easy to clean and a great price

I have had this skimmer running on my 40 gallon for about a year and so far it has done a very good job. The unit is very quiet and pulls out a ton of skimmate. I do have an occasional problem with water being sucked into the intake silencer. Other than that the unit does everything I need. Easy to clean, quiet and powerful.

Review update

Pros: This skimmer does everything a skimmer should

I've owned one of these AquaMaxx ConeS CO-1 In-Sump Protein Skimmers for a while now, so this is a follow up review. I currently have one of the 'popular' competing brands/designs serving another aquarium, and I have got to let folks know that the AquaMaxx ConeS CO-1 In-Sump Protein Skimmer is so much more easier to maintain. I can take this skimmer out of my sump, and soak it in some vinegar for 5 minutes, and disassemble this skimmer so simple to do too and reach every spot easily without worrying about breaking any part. The clean up on this skimmer is done in 10 minutes, 30+ on the other one that cost almost twice as much. Performance wise, this skimmer is doing a mighty fine job too. It pulls out the thickest, most nastiest hunk of crud ever, it is easy to tune, the collection cut is so well designed, just twist slightly and use the handle to lift off the base. Run in time after a thorough clean is about 12 hours for me. There are lots of reviews from when folks 'first' receive a product, I'm not sure how many are out there years after the product has been in service, so I hope this helps.

Is it running?

Pros: Quiet. Seems like such a little thing but it makes the tank so much more relaxing

Cons: None so far

If I told you how quiet this thing is you wouldn’t believe me. Been three days and foam going into cup at a good rate. Time will tell but so far so good. I love how easy this will be to clean.

CO-1 review

Pros: reliable pump, unique design, quality components

Cons: possibly, the slanted collection cup

Quality made product with a sicce pump which have been good and reliable in the past for me. Have been running this skimmer for nearly 2 years now and has performed pretty well. Has a very unique design, small footprint for tight spaces and easy to teardown. Only a couple questionable things for me with the skimmer; not completely sure if the slanted cup results in less or more efficient foam/ skinmate collection, and must get skimmer in at least the rated 8" of water if you desire anything but dry skimmate.

Excellent Skimmer

I have this skimmer in the sump of my Red Sea reefer 350! It is an excellent skimmer tool only a couple days to break in and has been removing a nice amount of skimmate ever since! This is one of the quietest non D/C skimmers on the market in my opinion! My only issue is finding the right water height.. at the recommended level air tends to get into the air silencer.. I currently have it at about 8.5 inches water height and works great!

Great skimmer!

The Cone-S CO-2 is a great, consistent skimmer. I hesitated to replace my EM200 with it as I really wanted an upgrade. The EM200 is a great skimmer for my 90 gallon plus 39 gallon sump display tank. However, after a month it is clear that the CO-2 is more consistent and pulls out even more gunk. The handle on the skimmer cup is great. I think it took no more than 24 hours to burn it in and it was at full efficiency by 7 days. All in all, this is a great, no need to adjust skimmer. As a Nopox user, I feel comfortable depending upon this skimmer.

Great Skimmer

Great skimmer. Very quiet and pulls out disgusting skimate. Break in was about 1 day before most all micro bubbles went away. 10/10
