Q-Series protein skimmers easily fit in most space-limited installations and supply powerful filtration. The hybrid-cone body stabilizes and concentrates the organic rich foam as it rises! Micro-adjustable valve provides precise control, and allows cleaned water to exit the skimmer chamber at its base where it is less bubble.

AquaMaxx has a dedicated R&D team with more than 10 years experience designing high-performance, high-quality yet affordable protein skimmers. Moreover, AquaMaxx skimmers are engineered with computer-precision and are outfitted with the latest filtration innovations.

The new ConeS Q-Series protein skimmers are made with new and efficient bubble chambers similar to ones found on our popular ConeS CO-Series. The bubble plate in conjunction with the custom diffusers are designed to efficiently mix air and water. More importantly, random twirling and turbulent flow is eliminated. A stable laminar flow is created inside the skimmer`s reaction chamber and maximizes the efficiency of the skimmer like no other design!

AquaMaxx ConeS Skimmers feature high-quality Italian-made Sicce pumps. Each Sicce pump motor block is then modified and fitted with proprietary AquaMaxx needle wheel impellers. With the precise modifications and upgrades, performance is boosted much beyond that of a stock pump. The upgraded AquaMaxx ‘Shark’ pump is capable of drawing in significantly more air and chops them up to the optimum bubble size for protein extraction. These pump and protein skimmer combinations deliver unprecedented performance and reliability. Accumulated protein and organics will be vigorously removed from your tank so you can focus less on maintenance and more on enjoying your piece of the reef.

AquaMaxx Cone-Series Protein Skimmers are designed from the ground up with the hobbyist in mind. A built-in air intake silencer reduces noise for near-silent operation. The hybrid-cone design maximizes the size of the reaction chamber and to allow the skimmate to smoothly rise into the collection cup. The advanced Bubble Chamber decreases turbulence and produced a stable laminar flow: which improves bubble transition and boosts skimmer performance.

  • Modified and upgraded Italian Sicce needle-wheel pump produces optimum bubble size for high-efficiency protein skimming
  • Cone body extends through the collection cup to easy bubble transition and maximize skimmer efficiency
  • Efficient, durable and reliable
  • Simple to set up and operate
  • Cell-cast acrylic construction
  • ShockMaxx rubber feet isolate noise and reduce vibration
  • New outlet design minimizes footprint, reduces skimmer height and allows for fine-tuning
  • Exclusive collection cup design with a handle that allows you to easy hold and transport the collection cup for cleaning
  • Filtration Rating: up to 420 Gallons (light bioload) or 240 Gallons (heavy bioload)

Manufacturer information

AquaMaxx is a Southern California-based aquarium supply company that entered the market in mid-2008 with a line of affordable metal halide bulbs. Pros: Easy build and quality parts!

Cons: Noisy for the first few hours of running

Skimming right after a few hours of running it! The new design on the cup and the handle are nice features too. You can tell right away that the parts motor are high quality. Built an egg crate stand for the sump.

one year later review

Pros: easy to clean. great perfomance

Cons: none that i can think of

Purchased back in November 2018, and must say this thing is a beast. Works great on my 180 gallon reef tank. So easy to maintain and clean. I've been a hobbiest over the past 20 years and have had several big name skimmers and this one is my fav.

Skim mate right out of the box!

Pros: Quality build, quality parts, performs as advertised

Cons: No biggie but for some reason the air muffler fills up with water without being submerged when the main pump is shut off.

Been wanting to try one of these for the past 6 months or so, settle in on the Q-3 for this particular set and there was absolutely no disappointment with this one! Right out of the box it started producing skim mate in no time, dialed right in so far and started performing like any good skimmer that has been properly broken in. All quality parts, the body is solid and flawless, handle on the cup makes cleaning super easy, so far it's everything that it is advertised, of course it's only been a few days but very happy thus far.

works, loud poor quality

Pros: skims well, affordable

Cons: uniformed evenly cracked collection cup impeding clarity, and very loud.

For the price this skimmer works well. It is very loud and the collection cup has cracked. It almost looks like the material was formed at the wrong temperature or something. It has a uniform crack on the upper portion of the cup that circles the complete top. I expected the quality to be close to another affordable skimmer but its not. It skims very well and I think they are on to a great design. Not for me.

Pros: Powerful, easy to adjust, build quality

Cons: Noise

I am so impressed with this skimmer. I run it on a heavily stocked 150 gallon reef and couldn’t be happier. It was a breeze to dial in and is easy to adjust as needed. The collection cup is easy to remove with the provided handle and the design itself is very compact. The one downside I would say is the noise. While it does quiet down after a couple weeks of use, it still is pretty loud. That’s the only reason I’m rating 4 stars instead of 5.

Great skimmer!

Pros: LOVE IT!

Cons: The pump was working funny at first so I called Marine Depot and they helped me trouble shoot.

This skimmer is a beast! My Xenia is going away because there is not enough nutrients in the water. (This is a good thing. I have been battling the stuff for years)

ConeS Q-3 Portein Skimmer

Out of the box you can see the high quality. Easy to setup. Soaked entire unit over night. Set it up on a very high bio load 150 fish only with live rock system. Was getting brown skim in the collection cup within a few hours. After 24 hours, a lot more nasty stuff in cup. Simply the best!
