AquaMaxx FC Series In-Sump Protein Skimmers efficiently remove organic waste from aquarium water. Introducing a bevy of new features focused on precision control, high performance and appealing aesthetics, the FC series skimmers are just another example of how AquaMaxx provides hobbyists with the best protein skimmers for the money.

The core of AquaMaxx protein skimmers is the high-quality Shark needle wheel pump. The Italian made Sicce brand pumps are modified by AquaMaxx to produce optimal size bubbles for highly efficient protein skimmer. These pumps have been powering AquaMaxx skimmers since the very beginning because of the long lasting and quiet operation combined with quality construction.

First introduced with the ConeS series skimmers, the FC skimmers contain the highly efficient bubble chambers that feature custom diffusors to reduce turbulence and create a stable laminar flow inside of the skimmer which helps get more waste out of your aquarium.

FC skimmers utilize a one-piece acrylic body which is molded into a beautiful wine glass shape. The shape is what smoothly guides and condenses the foam inside the skimmer for effective removal of waste via the collection cup. Furthermore, the specially designed dome on the collection cups reduce resistance as the foam rises and falls into the collection cup for maximum waste removal.

AquaMaxx has included both a highly sensitive gate valve type outlet and the first ever adjustable air silencer which gives you precise control over the foam level inside of your skimmer.

Computer-precision engineered and outfitted with the latest filtration technology, AquaMaxx protein FC series protein skimmers will deliver the performance and value you are looking for in a skimmer.

Bigger than it looks, but so worth it

Pros: Super Adjustable, quiet, skims very well. large skimmate cup

Cons: none really

Got this skimmer for my 120 Deep Blue tank, with 40 gallon sump, which required a redesign to accommodate the footprint as I'd been using a Curve 5 previously. This skimmer is amazing. I love how adjustable it is, and I love how much skimmate it pulls out of the water column. I run my tank with a lot of livestock so an oversized skimmer is a must in helping control nutrients. I can't recommend this skimmer enough.

Superb Construction

Pros: Design is no hype. More efficient than many other brands

Cons: Would rate this for 150 reef or larger. It is semi large skimmer and 24" tall.

Very impressed with this design and quality. The only scare I had was removing from the carton. Was shocked the heavy pump was laying on the fragile diffuser milk bottle nipples? Was sure there would be damage but luckily not. This is a huge quality skimmer at a great price.

AquaMaxx FC-280 Skimmer

Pros: High quality, easy to assemble, lots of information available on AquaMaxx website, dialed in very quickly!

Cons: None that I can think of!

As always, I received my order promptly from Marine Depot! Needed a bigger skimmer for my 150 Gallon upgrade tank! This skimmer was very easy to assemble. It's been set up for about a week now. Took a couple of days to get it dialed in just right...but WOW! Already getting a good volume of waste from it. I've always had good service from AquaMaxx products in the past and this skimmer will be no different! Very high quality and just a tremendous value! Thanks AquaMaxx! And thanks Marine Depot!

No, I would not recommend this.

Not sure if I got a defect or not

Pros: Seems to skim awesome

Cons: Abnormally loud - may have gotten a defective pump

I bought this for a new tank since I already have the Aquamaxx Q3 version on another tank which basically uses the same pump and it rocks.

This broke in and started skimming within 30 mins which is what I expected from my previous experience with the other skimmer.

The problem I’m having is this thing is abnormally loud. It seems like the pump is vibrating or something. My Q3 pump on the other hand is super quiet which makes me believe something is wrong with the pump.

I’ve disassembled the pump and unit but nothing wrong visually stands out. Either the impeller is bad or the pump itself causing it to be loud.

I’ve contacted Marinedepot and Aquamaxx and awaiting a response before returning this.

Big Skimmer

Pros: Produced skimmate off teh bat easy to setup

Cons: Some plastic screws were hard to tighten.

I have bought the FC-120 before and was very impressed with that skimmer, when it came time to upgrade my tank i took no hesitation in in looking at the offerings from aquamaxx again. The FC 280 is a big skimmer, check your dimension of your sump and Stand, included height dimension allowing for rising the skimmer to the correct water level, 7 - 8 Inches, Assembly is easy with 5 screws holding the chamber to the base plate. I liked the addition of the return pump collar of the bubble diffuser, you can now make sure this is attached to the pump an does not move something the FC-120 didn't have. This Skimmer produces a lot of bubbles in the skimmer chamber and was producing skimmate within minutes of being turned on. The only cravat i had was the pump was a little noisy but when you consider how big the skimmer is, its not surprising. The only other nagging thing to me is the plastic screw that holds the air silencer was a very tight fit and wouldn't tighten all the way leaving the silencer a little loose.

Big skimmer

Pros: Price Size

Cons: None so far

Skimmer is bigger than I thought it would be. I did review the dimensions prior to purchase, but look at this thing. I hope I didn buy too big a skimmer for my 125. Every thing went together well and appears to be good quality. Instructions not great as others have mentioned, but honestly if you have assembled any skimmer you can figure it out easily. IWill follow up after break in.
