The NEW AquaMaxx HOB-1.5 is an upgraded and more-powerful version of AquaMaxx`s best-selling HOB-1. With an enlarged bubble diffusor and reaction chamber, the new HOB-1.5 is able to fully harness the power of the Shark 1.0 pump to maximize foam production and protein extraction. The custom conical bubble diffusors help minimize the turbulence inside the reaction chamber and help to direct water linearly up toward the collection cup. More waste than ever is pulled out of your aquarium and into the easy-to-remove collection cup.

AquaMaxx skimmers are computer-precision engineered and utilize the latest filtration technology to deliver the performance and value you are looking for in a protein skimmer.

EASE OF USE
AquaMaxx HOB-1.5 protein skimmers is easy to setup and maintain. Just move the collection cup up or down to adjust the foam level to wet or dry.

Maintenance is simple. A removable collection cup makes cleaning easy. Plus, every AquaMaxx protein skimmer includes a drain fitting for hobbyists who want to setup a separate reservoir for skimmate.

Water quality and consistency is crucial to the success of a marine aquarium. An AquaMaxx HOB Series I protein skimmer will help to ensure that success.

COMPACT DESIGN
AquaMaxx protein skimmers were designed from the ground up with the hobbyist in mind. AquaMaxx HOB Series I protein skimmers have the pump placed inside the skimmer itself to save space, reduce noise and improve efficiency.

All AquaMaxx protein skimmers are computer designed. Each unit is precision-cut and made of polished cell-cast acrylic.

PERFORMANCE
AquaMaxx HOB-1.5 Skimmers feature high-quality Italian-made Sicce pumps. Each Sicce pump motor block is then modified and fitted with proprietary AquaMaxx needle wheel impellers. With the precise modifications and upgrades, performance is boosted much beyond that of a stock pump. The upgraded AquaMaxx ‘Shark’ pump is capable of drawing in significantly more air and chops them up to the optimum bubble size for protein extraction. These pump and protein skimmer combinations deliver unprecedented performance and reliability. Accumulated protein and organics will be vigorously removed from your tank so you can focus less on maintenance and more on enjoying your piece of the reef.

Fish Only

Pros: Works hard, great for smaller systems with just fish, compact and quiet

Cons: Can't dose anything without overflowing, can't change the amount of air fed.

This skimmer is great for a tank setup with fish only that doesn't use high output lighting. I have had cyano algae outbreaks and as soon as I start dosing the skimmer wants to push the cover on the collection cup off and overflows everywhere. Great for handling nutrients input from food and natural waste but don't recommended dosing.

My 2 cents

Pros: It works great

Cons: Tiny bubbles & clogged air intake if your dosing

Ive had the older style for 4 yrs. and its just ok. The one thing i do like about aquamax is that the pump is inside the box, this gives me a piece of mind that it won't leak unless the box is cracked. I set up the new aquamax next to the old one and the second day of skimming its outperforming my old aquamax. But all the tiny bubbles are a nuisance, the manufacturer knows that its a problem so they try to sell you a bubble stopper. My opinion that's BS it should come with the bubble stopper or try to stop it altogether. If your dosing do it lightly the air input on the pump will start to get clogged , the results will show up on the skimmers performance. The best way to clear it, is to take it apart, i tried to send hot water into the air tube but it doesn't work. Im going to click yes for recommending this but be be warned of the issues this comes with.

Good choice

Pros: Compact, works well,

Cons: Somewhat challenging to me to get it fit together as intended.

I wanted the ConeS but didn't leave enough room behind the already setup tank. I like this because the pump is enclosed. Once it's setup correctly and broken in, it works very well. It did overflow quickly and frequently in the beginning but it settled down after several cup drainings.. I have the airline pulling through a CO2 scrubber. Definitely get the version with the bubble trap or you will come back for it. IIt is not loud, but I turn it off if I listen to music because it is audible.

not impressed

Pros: good pump

Cons: Major flaw

I just got into the saltwater hobby, and if I didn't really enjoy it so far I would quit without hesitation thanks to this lousy skimmer. I wish I did enough research before buying this piece of junk

Motor is Garbage

Pros: Does its job

Cons: Motor is terrible

It works great at first. Like many of the reviews have said, the motor dies after a few months. Very disappointed.

Has issues.

Pros: Small foot print and good performance

Cons: Internal silencer is a bad design

The design of this unit has an issue when the internal silencer remains partially submerged. In doing so salt creep will build up and eventually will block the air line to the Venturi. When this happens the internal water level will rise and exit the intake tube cut out in the skimmer body. You will have a leak onto the floor. I added an external silencer to help reduce this issue. Other than that the compact design and performance is nice.

A lot a micro-bubbles after 3 weeks...noise, splash

Pros: Sicce pump

Cons: All

based on so many favorable reviews, I bought this skimmer ... for my 25 lagoon ... after 3 weeks I still have my tank full of micro bubbles ... I have actually tried several aquamaxx skimmers, and I am not at all impressed. .. If I could I swear I would not have spent $ 220 on this piece of garbage ... it makes noise, micro bubbles, splashes and you have to constantly clean the outlet with ro / di water so that the salt does not accumulate ... a disappointment. .. no more aquamaxx for me

Best Protein Skimmer

Pros: Great foam immediately . Did not take long to break in

Cons: Micro bubbles but only lasted a week or so

I’ve had tons of protein skimmers in the past and this is by far my favorite. I am a little more then three weeks in with the AquaMaxx 1.5 and I’m already getting great skimming. It is a lot more quiet Then the others I’ve had. I really love how the motor is inside of the skimmer itself rather then sitting inside the tank. I have already recommended this product to friends in the hobby . Awesome Protein skimmer
