The highly-rated HOB-1 skimmer in an in-sump version!

The AquaMaxx WS-1 protein skimmer features an incredibly responsive collection cup and an amazingly powerful submersible pump. It is rated up to 65 gallons in a design thin and light enough to be placed on a nano aquarium, all-in-one style aquarium or other small saltwater aquarium.

The AquaMaxx WS-1 protein skimmer removes organic waste from aquarium water. It creates a strong mix of small air bubbles and turbulent water movement to force protein, waste and other materials into a collection cup for easy removal. The new Conical diffusers help to reduce turbulence in the reaction chamber and achieve more-stable, laminar flow to maximize performance.

AquaMaxx skimmers are computer-precision engineered and utilize the latest filtration technology to deliver the performance and value you are looking for in a protein skimmer.

AquaMaxx WS-1 protein skimmers are easy to setup and maintain. Just move the collection cup up or down to adjust the foam level to wet or dry.

Maintenance is simple. A removable collection cup makes cleaning easy. Plus, every AquaMaxx protein skimmer includes a drain fitting for hobbyists who want to setup a separate reservoir for skimmate.

Water quality and consistency is crucial to the success of a marine aquarium. An AquaMaxx WS-1 protein skimmer will help to ensure that success.

AquaMaxx protein skimmers were designed from the ground up with the hobbyist in mind. The AquaMaxx WS-1 protein skimmer have the pump placed inside the skimmer itself to save space, reduce noise and improve efficiency.

All AquaMaxx protein skimmers are computer designed. Each unit is precision-cut and made of polished cell-cast acrylic.

The AquaMaxx WS-1 protein skimmer relies on a superbly crafted Italian Sicce Syncra pump and AquaMaxx needlewheel impeller to vigorously remove waste from your fish or reef tank. Sicce pumps are well-regarded for their efficiency to move air and water. Combining these dynamic pumps with AquaMaxx protein skimmers saves users considerable energy.

No tinkering, Workhorse

Pros: Simplicity, reliability, performs!

Cons: Cannot think of 1

This little thing is in my 56 gallon heavily stocked reef system and keeps up just fine. No knobs, gates, just adjust the cup up or down and it runs optimally all the time, wetter or dryer, You choose. I undersized the skimmer on my tank on purpose so it would actually produce good foam and it does! Motor has never failed Me. I clean the whole unit once a year.

Junk, worked for 2 months

Pros: Worked for two months

Cons: doesn't work after a cleaning and a pump replacement

So, this thing worked well for two months, then stopped. The nylon bushing between the pump and the multiple outlet water jets broke, i think i was pulling it out to clean and so Marine depot sent me a replacement pump. Thanks guys, that was awesome but now... it hasn't pulled skimmate well for 4 months since then. As far as i'm concerned it's junk. My water isn't that clean, i have 8 small fish but it never pulls skimmate.

Not sure how you could ever go wrong with this Skimmer

Pros: Best unit for quality & price for a great product.

Cons: Cant find any so far. Skim-mate is stinky.but means its working very well

This skimmer works like a very hungry Grizzly Bear in a Salmon stream. If you've ever seen that you get "it". It's also pretty quiet in the back of one of my SR-60 compartments. Perfect for most AIO's IMO with a smaller footprint.
I have the tank in the living room where TV is watched & I barely notice any sound. I also have a fairly large bio-load. Handles it well. Easy to clean cup & unit comes apart simply. It's a big bang for your buck for any tank up to 60 gallons & possibly could handle an even bigger load IMO. I'm a very satisfied customer with this particular purchase. Best buy I've made yet & I've been in reef-keeping almost 20 years now.. Marine depot Rocks too...!!!
Unit had a crack in it from being crushed during shipping. to NO fault of Marine Depot. Next day they shipped me out a brand new one. I received it in 2 days.
Very Happy The End.

Excellent Skimmer

Pros: Works!

Cons: Not available in black

This skimmer works great! The Sicce pump is a top notch pump that delivers plenty of power. It pulls very dark skimmate.

Pros: Small space, great pump,

Cons: It is audible, but not terribly

I have been useing this in my Red Sea Reefer Nano and have been very happy with it. It is the perfect skimmer for this size aquarium and takes up very little space.

Micro bubble factory and more

Pros: small footprint

Cons: Inefficient pump, high level of microbubbles in exiting water, bottom of collection cup hard to clean

I used this pump for about 6 months hoping it would "break in" but never reached the point where it was no longer producing a tremendous amount of microbubbles back into the sump. It's unfortunate that they created a solution for the microbubble problem for the HOB version but not for the WS-1. In addition, the pump is supposed to be operating at 11 watts but mine runs at 30 watts. I received a replacement pump from aquamaxx and had the same issue. They tested the pumps themselves and told me that the specs on the pump are incorrect and need to be adjusted on their website and with their resellers.

Good unit

Had some trouble at first. Apparently the hole that attaches to the air intake tube on the Venturi pump wasn't completely drilled during manufacturing. Took a while to figure out why the unit wasn't getting any air. However, the tech service team at aquamaxx was responsive and helpful.

Mine is still being broken in, but it is indeed pulling crap out of the tank.

It's very quiet for a skimmer.

It will fit in the back middle chamber of a 45 gallon rimless, but you'll need to make a little stand for it to sit on.
