Chemical Media for Aquariums

Chemical aquarium media refers to a media that chemically interacts inside the aquarium, not a chemical additive One of the most popular types of chemical media is an ion exchange resin, like Seachem Purigen. Ion exchange resins work a lot like carbon media. A filter media bag filled with chemical media can be set in an aquarium filter, like a hang on back filter or canister filter. The media absorbs (or adsorbs) organic waste, which reduces ammonia and clears up the water. One big benefit of Purigen is that it can be recharged and used again. Many chemical media resins last longer than carbon media. Other targeted chemical media include nitrate removers, like nitrate sponge.
