Bottle Sizes

The ATI Essentials Set is comprised of 3 bottles and is available in 2 sizes:

  • 500 mL Concentrate Bottles
Mixes 5 Liters of each ATI Essentials component
  • 1000 mL Concentrate Bottles
Mixes 10 Liters of each ATI Essentials component

Ingredients

  • ATI Essentials #1 - Carbonate Sources
ATI Essentials # 1 is a dry powder that includes various carbonate sources.
  • ATI Essentials #2 - Calcium and Trace Elements
ATI Essentials #2 is a liquid concentrate that contains calcium and other essential trace elements. These include mainly (among others): boron, bromine, cobalt, chromium, fluorine, iron, iodine, potassium, lithium, manganese, molybdenum, nickel, rubidium, sulphur, strontium, vanadium, and zinc.
  • ATI Essentials #3 - Magnesium and Trace Elements
ATI Essentials #3 is a liquid concentrate that contains magnesium and other essential trace elements. These include mainly (among others): boron, bromine, cobalt, chromium, fluorine, iron, iodine, potassium, lithium, manganese, molybdenum, nickel, rubidium, sulphur, strontium, vanadium, and zinc.

Preparation View Quick Start Guide

Mixing the solutions for dosing is easy although the instructions vary slightly for the different bottle sizes so pay close attention to the instructions before you begin. For each bottle of ATI Essentials, combine 1 part product to 9 parts RO/DI water.

In short, ATI Essentials #1 is mixed with RO/DI water until clear then stored in a food safe container (like HDPE plastic). ATI Essentials #2 and #3 are prepared the same way.

What You`ll Need

  • Reverse osmosis deionized water (preferably filtered through dual DI canisters)
  • 3 mixing containers
  • 3 storage/dosing containers in 5, 10, or 20 liters (1.5, 2.5, or 5 gallon sizes)

Recommended but not required

Dosing

You begin by dosing ATI Essentials #1, #2, and #3 in equal amounts. For example, if you dose 10 mL of #1 per day, you will also dose 10 mL of #2 and 10 mL of #3 per day. But first you need to determine the starting dose and there are various possibilities.

If you already know your daily KH/alkalinity consumption, the optimal dosage can be worked out from the following formula: 36 mL of ATI Essentials increases KH/alkalinity in 100 liters (26.4 gallons) of aquarium water by 1° KH. Once you know how much of ATI Essentials #1 to dose, you will dose the same amount of #2 and #3 per day.

If you are already dosing a KH balancing solution using this recipe — 420 g NaHCO3 in 5 liters (1.32 gallons) or 840 g NaHCO3 in 10 liters (2.64 gallons) — you should dose the same amount of ATI Essentials as you did with your previous solution.

It is extremely important to measure your KH/alkalinity on a daily basis when you begin dosing ATI Essentials so that you can fine-tune the dosage.

If you have never dosed your aquarium before using ATI Essentials, please follow these guidelines:

RECOMMENDED DAILY STARTING DOSE FOR DIFFERENT TANK TYPES
New aquariums and/or tanks with few corals 5 mL of ATI Essentials per 100 L (26.4 gallons)
Soft corals and anemones 10 mL of ATI Essentials per 100 L (26.4 gallons)
A mixed reef with SPS, LPS, and soft corals 25 mL of ATI Essentials per 100 L (26.4 gallons)
A SPS dominant tank 50 mL of ATI Essentials per 100 L (26.4 gallons)

Much more detailed information about dosing is included in the instructional manual, such as what to do if you have an uneven consumption of calcium and alkalinity.

The Results

With the balanced formulation of ATI Essentials, performing partial water changes to correct water chemistry or compensate for trace elements are no longer completely necessary. The benefits of this will be visible in the health and growth of your corals.

The Advantages

  • All essential elements are supplied and fully balanced
  • Fully measurable and controllable dosing for complete stability
  • Carbonate (KH/Alkalinity), Calcium, and Magnesium can be individually adjusted
  • You’ll get better results with more growth and eye-popping colors
  • Regular water changes may no longer be necessary
  • Less water changes means you’ll save time and money

Q
Is there a container you recommend for mixing and then dosing from with the 10 liter size

Q
Does ATI recommend any other trace elements or additives be used with this system?
I am thinking about using Neptune DOS pumps to add these chemicals to my system as part of my first foray into dosing. I already have 1 set of pumps, but am curious if one more set will be sufficient or if there will be other chemicals I may want to look at in the future.

ATI Essentials and Elements is a complete program that starts with an ICP test. Based on your test results, supplements, trace elements etc can be purchased separately for dosing. Consistent dosing for most reef tanks are the basics, also known as 2-part, which this kit contains: Alk, Cal, and also Mag. Whether you follow the ATI program or not, these are the 3 parameters that are the most frequently measured and dosed. Trace elements and such are dosed on an as-needed basis.

PROS
Price, Quality, Stability
CONS
Diluted fairly weak -- It's part of their system but a little too light for my liking.
REVIEW
So far this 2-part has exceeded my expectations. After about a weeks use I've noticed increased polyp extension on my SPS, I've also noticed some of my more finicky corals have much better PE and new growth.
