Worked great for my 75 gallon

Pros: Beast of a skimmer, very durable, longevity, build quality

Cons: break in overflowed, gurgling sound, sits high on the edge of my rimmed tank

I bought this thing years ago from Marine Depot. My tank is not rimless and the skimmer hanger bracket sits high on its bracket edge of the lip of the tank top rim. When I originally plugged in the filter years ago it overflowed the first couple times I started it. The third time I plugged in the pump it just push the water up to an inch of overflowing the cup edge. It does that now and doesn't go any higher. It hasn't overflowed for many years now. It has been a beast at pulling out everything from dark waste to the fine particles found inside of two different 5 pound bags of added live sand. I rarely clean the body and its still running even with some algae inside. You will have to replace the foam bubble catcher as it can get gunked up. I will say after years of use I noticed some splitting at the edge of skimmer body where the cup mounts and slides down into. I really love this skimmer as it has been durable and a workhorse on an overstocked mixed tank. It is not quiet though and makes a gurgling sound, which I silenced by drilling a small hole on the bottom of a medicine cup and placing it over the top of the outlet tube. I put a longer hose attached to the cup going down into a 5 gallon jug just for my piece of mind, but have never had to empty it.

Awesome!

Pros: Quiet, easy to setup. Working so far...

Cons: Lots of microbubbles at first, and initial set up required lowering air supply to prevent overflowing. Pump was a little challenge to prime at first

Was a little concerned at first with all the microbubbles being produced in my tank but those went away after 48 hours. Meanwhile, the skimmer started pulling stuff out of the water after about two hours. Inlet tube is adjustable and helped me fit into the back of my uniquarium…see photos. Very satisfied.

My biggest regret

Pros: Absolutely none.

Cons: Read my review. There's the cons.

Buying this has got to be the worst decision I've ever made. It will randomly either stop generating bubbles, or will foam over, both for no apparent reason. I'm forced to disassemble the entire skimmer on a weekly basis, or the random problems become a multi-times per day issue. This single piece of equipment has turned my relaxing hobby into a nightmare!

Amazing Skimmer

This is the third skimmer I have tried on my 56 gallon column reef. The water we have in town is terrible and I do not yet have an RO system. I was hesitant about the brand being unfamiliar with them and didn't find much in the way of information out there. It is the first skimmer I have ever used that rivaled or exceeded the efficiency and performance of a euro reef. This skimmer took about two days to get dialed in and get a good head going, but now it needs no adjusting and it is pulling out some of the darkest, grossest sludge I have ever seen. Kinda made me feel bad that that stuff was in the tank. The Eheim it replaced did not perform anywhere close to level this thing does. Within a week, I noticed my corals standing up proper and my temper mental zooanthids opening much wider than they had been over the last year I had the eheim. My fish are much more active and the problematic green hair algae is thinning and going away. This is a wonderful skimmer and when I upgrade to a 120 tank I will be getting a larger version of this one for that tank. You will not be wasting your money on this skimmer.

Works... When it works!

I bought this skimmer and the first time i plugged it in the shaft broke in half. It is a thin round piece of plastic. I was able to make due with a "half shaft". After that fiasco, I was able to get the skimmer to work and it worked great. Then came the rattling. I have to constantly break this skimmer down to re-seat the shaft to stop the rattle. I wish i would have spent $50 more the first time and got a better brand, and not one from China.

Received 2 E3s for Christmas

I received 2 BM E3 skimmers for Christmas. This is the first time I have used protein skimmers on my tanks. I ran vinegar and water through them prior to installing them on my tanks (30 gallon/40 gallon). Within days they were both pulling dark gunk from the water. To keep them from overflowing, I had to raise both skimmers up with shims. After two months, one pump went bad. Seaside Aquatics shipped me a new pump priority mail with no hassle.

Not so great

This protein skimmer has to have air on all the way or it over flows and even then it constantly over flows. Of course all my plugs to pumps lights ect. are behind my tank making this unreliable skimmer a hazard!! One plus is when it does work properly, maintaining the proper water level, it is extremely efficient. I wish it would just settle down and maintain!!

good and bad

It took about a week to break in and now seems to be pulling a good amount of skimate off. The pump is very noisy. I'm hoping it will have a break in period and quiet down but I'm beginning to doubt that will happen. The Poor instructions made it difficult to figure out the origional start up without outside help from you tube. It is also a little tricky to get the pump to prime when starting up after it is turned off. Beyond the set up difficulities and the noise it apears to be working very well and I would recomend it over the Remora skimmer it replaced.

Bubble Magus NAC5E

I've been running this protein skimmer on my 55 reef for about 5 weeks. I had a lot of micro bubbles at first but once it broke in the bubbles disappeared. Had to raise it up like the previous user to prevent overflowing. Once I got it set right it's been performing very nice.
