The Coral Essentials - Part C: Magnesium is a concentrated source of liquid magnesium supplement for your reef aquarium. Part of Coral Essentials Primary Care Range, Part C helps form the fundamental basics for all reef aquarium systems when dosed with Carbonate and Calcium.
It is important to have a source of magnesium for your reef aquarium, for not only balancing alkalinity and calcium, but for coral to utilize in their calcium carbonate skeletons. Poor magnesium levels usually result in the need for addition of much higher levels of calcium and carbonate than would normally be required. It serves to prevent the excessive precipitation of calcium carbonate from aquarium water.
The magnesium levels in marine tanks need to be checked regularly to determine the take up in your system. Magnesium usage can be calculated by testing at regular intervals to see how much the level drops, then dosing requirements to suit the depletion rate can be calculated. After you have determined this, a regular check of the magnesium levels should be made.
Your tank will change over time as coral and inhabitants grow or are added, consuming more magnesium. Knowing this, the ideal magnesium levels should be kept in a range of 1350-1400ppm for most aquariums, so testing and then adjusting dose accordingly is recommended.
Dosage Rate: Per 25 gallons, 5 ml will raise the magnesium levels by 5 ppm (mg/L)
