IT DOES WORK*- Modifications

Pros: Cheap, simple setup,

Cons: Microbubbles, cheap materials, poor design

I set this skimmer up and for the first two weeks it vomited microbubbles into my tank and annoyed my anemones. I use the filter chamber with the supplied pads and I run chemipure elite in the heater chamber (which raised the water level in the skimmer, however even before it was blowing bubbles).

I thought this filter/skimmer combo might be a lost cause, however, I packed the top of the filter after the cartridge with filter floss and put the cover back on. No more bubbles.

It is quite loud, requires a work arounds, and is all around not great. but, it will get you running cheap.

I do not recommend it, however it can sorta work, put the money towards a better product.

It's ok

Pros: Price

Cons: Skimmer doesn't function properly. Noise

The filter is nothing more than an aqueon with a skimmer. Except my skimmer has never worked properly. Skimmer cup fills up with water and it's noisy. For the price and my purpose of running it on an observation tank in another room it's ok. I wouldn't recommend it for a display tank.

Noise resolved

Pros: Price and ease of use.

Cons: None so far.

At first it ran quiet. When I reassembled it after cleaning it was very noisy. The small black cap came off of the motor shaft. Luckily I found it in the sink. Replaced the cap. Running great and extremely quiet.
Those reviews of noisy units might want to check to make sure that cap is in place.

poor product!

Pros: nice concept

Cons: poor skimmer and filter with tons of micro bubbles

This filter does a poor job in keeping the water clean. It almost pulled no dirt out and it created a ton of micro bubbles! I could not get rid of the micro bubbles and the skimmer did not work. Great idea, just a poor design! beware!

Good product for cheap price

Pros: Quality Price

Cons: Noise

Good little hob filter with the help of a mini skimmer, I dont know what youd expect out of a $40 all in one? For the price it's great and easy to use, a tad noisy but I'm not complaining, take a bit to tune it and seems to run wet, but perfect little setup for a small tank that doesnt need a crazy setup.

budget friendly with major flaws

Pros: size

Cons: bubbles, bubbles, bubbles.......noisy,noisy, noisy

My honest review about this product is not good. After a month of using it, the protein skimmer cup was to watery and it is too noisy. The other problem is the micro bubbles that leaves the filter into the tank is one major area that needs to be improve. Great idea but poor construction.

Save your money

Pros: A good concept

Cons: Poor quality

At first this filter seemed like it was gonna be a good addition to my tank. The first day I ran it I managed to “tune” it and produced foam after only a few hours. Over the next few days I was constantly having to adjust it to quiet it down as it sounded like the impeller was bouncing around the housing due to air. I could not find that sweet spot anymore. If I opened it up it would get loud and eventually lose prime. If I closed it too much where it wasn’t noisy as heck the collection cup would fill full of water. After about a week I couldn’t keep it primed on anything other than the air valve fully closed. So I removed the filter.......... took it apart to inspect......... then the little plastic piece that holds the motor on snapped off. This filter just became a $38 piece of garbage. Lesson learned. If it seems too good to be true it probably is.

Coralife Marine Filter with Protein Skimmer

Pros: awesome idea.

Cons: none

I bought a second filter for my 55 gallon reef. The second one the catch was broken very small part, That holds the motor in place. It fits tight even with the broken part. Now for the good part eBay has a UV-Sterilizer that will fit in the heater compartment. Now you have a skimmer, filter and UV-Sterilizer in one unit. I posted a link for the UV-Sterilizer

Good product.... with caveats

Pros: Cost, build quality, does what it's supposed to do

Cons: Noise from the air intake, occasional micro-bubbles.

The build quality of this product is good, and the price excellent. It does what it's designed to do. The protein skimmer pulls muck out of the tank efficiently, and it's pretty easy to setup. So, why 4 stars, and not 5? Well... the air intake for the skimmer is pretty noisy, so you need to be aware of that if you buy this unit. Also, I have found the needle adjustment doesn't appear to do much. I have also found on occasion, the unit introduces micro-bubbles into the tank. I'm using this on a 20G quarantine tank, so it's not a big deal for me. Aside from the noise, and the occasional micro-bubbles, this is an excellent product, for an excellent price.
