EcoTech Marine VorTech MP40QD Propeller Pump w/ Wireless QuietDrive Driver - Mobius Ready

First, VorTech took the pump motor out of the aquarium, now QuietDrive takes the noise out of the motor.

The Vortech MP40 has been upgrade to the new QuietDrive driver that reduces noise, improves efficiency and increases flow. The VorTech is no less amazing today than when it was first revolutionized the aquarium hobby. Three generation of pumps, over a decade of flow production, and tens of thousands of healthy aquariums are a testament to this uniquely designed powerhead.

Vortech QD Flow:

In an aquarium, having the right amount of flow is crucial to the health of the ecosystem. With VorTech QuietDrive, choosing the correct water circulation equipment has never been easier.

VorTech pumps are designed by aquarists to be the gold standard in providing flow in marine aquariums. When it comes to broad yet gentle flow, the VorTech design is unmatched.

Magnetic Couple:

At the heart of the VorTech`s success is its unique, patented, magnetically coupled design.

  • No distractions from the beauty of the tank and its inhabitants
  • No wires in the aquarium
  • No unwanted heat added to the water column
  • No risk of electrical discharge harming people or marine life
  • No hassle when it comes to installing, relocating or cleaning the powerhead
QuietDrive builds on the unique advantages of the VorTech`s magnetically couple design and takes it to the next level. The revolutionary new drive system boasts increased efficiency and significantly reduces motor noise.

VorTech QD Modes:

LAGOON MODE
Lagoonal Random Mode simulates a low-energy lagoon environment. The speed of the pump is changed slowly to recreate the gentle currents of a lagoon.
REEF CREST MODE
Reef Crest Random Mode simulates a high-energy reef environment. The pump will change speed frequently and drastically to simulate crashing waves and surge tide. This is a favorite of SPS Corals.
GYRE MODE
Gyre Mode creates a flow pattern consisting of uniform clockwise and counterclockwise flow levels pulsing at a selected interval between two seconds and two hours.
SHORT PULSE MODE
Short Pulse Mode creates a flow pattern consisting of uniform high and low flow levels pulsing at a selected interval between 0.2 seconds and two seconds.
TIDAL SWELL MODE
Tidal Swell Mode (TSM) creates a harmonic balance reminiscent of the changing flow conditions found in nature. over the course of several hours, the flow pattern will go from very chaotic to calm, followed by a detritus-clearing surge at the very end of the cycle. The flow direction will change direction every cycle.
NUTRIENT TRANSPORT MODE
Nutrient Transport Mode (NTM) creates circulation in a two-phase program. The first phase uses wave motion to stir up detritus. The second phase follows with a surging motion to move the detritus into the overflow and out of the aquarium. This mode promotes maximum health, nutrient wxport and increased growth for sensitive corals such as SPS.
FEED MODE
At the touch of a button all VorTech wirelessly enabled pumps will temporarily pause their current mode and idle allowing food to be added to the tank without being cycled into the overflow and filtration.
NIGHT MODE
Pumps can be enabled to run a gentler night time program simulating calmer ocean conditions for the night time hours.

    Manufacturer information

EcoTech Marine has revolutionized the way people think about water movement in reef aquariums. Our technologically superior pumps produce unmatched broad yet gentle flow, while placing the motor outside the tank—preserving the beauty of your aquarium and enhancing the health of your aquarium ecosystem. The EcoTech leadership team consists of aquarium enthusiasts and engineers with a penchant for challenging the status quo. When EcoTech took root in the science labs of Lehigh University and University of Oklahoma, we realized there were serious differences between the native aquatic ecosystems in nature and the terrestrial habitats created in aquariums—and that little was being done to address this gap in the marketplace. Since that day, we have worked tirelessly to improve the “state of the art” to enable our customers to have the healthiest, safest and smartest aquarium possible. That’s why our products offer a wide variety of easy-to-program modes and have been thoroughly tested and endorsed by marine-biologists—making it the most versatile and life-like pump on the market.

    Awesome Pump

Pros: Everything about this pump is great

These pumps are top of the line. Tons of flow, lots of settings, whisper quiet and the form factor in the tank can not be beat. Simple to connect and control with the Mobius App.

    Best Pump! Awesome Support!

Pros: not heat, great support, mobius

    Cons: expensive

Not only is this one of the best pumps on the market today but Ecotech's support is hands down the best in the industry. The pump motor is on the outside so that keeps the heat and cables out of the tank.

    Perfect on my 120 penninsula

Pros: Discrete and moves a ton of water

    Cons: Lack of direction control.

I ran 2 of these on the end of my 120 peninsula and they were great. Amazing flow and so discrete in the tank. Their low profile and black wet side blended in with the black back wall. Mobius connects easily and convenient to update the flow patterns while standing right there.

    Love It!!

Pros: No wires in the tank

    Cons: Big motor

Recently added an mp40 to my70 gallon sps dominant reef. I managed to remove two smaller powerheads that were running at 100% and run the mp40 at 40%. Better power consumption and no cords in the display! 10/10!

Pros: Build Quality is Superb, Mobius software, Reliability

    Cons: Ex$pen$ive

Yes, ecotech powerheads are expensive, but the premium you pay is rewarded in features, reliability and build quality.

I love the mobius software and use it over my neptune programming on my SPS system

    My go to choice

Pros: No cord in the water, No heat transfer. Battery back up available. Adjustable flow modes. Reliable.

    Cons: None

I own 2 MP40’s and they have been running continuously for years. They are infinitely adjustable and incredibly reliable. They have 12 different flow modes, low profile design and my favorite part is that there is no cord in the water. Heat generated by electric motor is virtually non-existent because the Vortech pumps used coupled magnetic drive which results in low power use and virtually no heat transfer. Use the available battery back up for those power outages too. Vortech pumps are the best choice for keeping my corals safe and happy.
