Breaks in the long-term
Pros: Quiet, easy to service, neat design.
Cons: Breaks, bad customer service, expensive replacement parts
I have to say, this is (for the most part) quite a well planned out filter. Kudos to Eheim for that. But, after about a year or so of use, part of the green canister broke, which nullified the handle priming feature. I called Eheim and went online to the best of my abilities, trying to get this problem fixed, and I wasn't helped at all. So, I just ordered a new canister off Eheim's parts warehouse website. Now, a few years later, the same thing has happened, and I don't want to spend $60 for a small plastic bucket, so I'm in the market for a new filter that may save me money in the long run by not having to buy new parts ever 2 years.

My first canister
Low power draw is the interesting thing for me here and what cinched my decision to pick up this Ecco Pro 130. What I did not expect was how easy it was to setup and how ghostly quiet it runs. One downside, the filter media is very gritty and that gritty powder abraded the finish on the outside of the canister during shipping. Once it was full of water, I no longer noticed, and since it will be hidden from view under my tank, it is just a minor complaint. I would purchase another in the future.

Great filter
This canister filter is great and easy to assemble and get running. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was green tubing. The green is really bright and a little distracting in the tank

slightly damaged
This is my second Eheim 2236 canister filter. I bot My 1st one directly from the pet store yrs ago, but they no longer carry them. I have extra filters & products I bot so I found this oNline. this one is slightly battered thru shipping & the box barely held/taped together. At 1st I couldn't get to pump water in, then after almost giving up, it started. Few changes made it supposedly easier, but I disagree. My old one jammed & the handle broke when I tried to pull it apart. I'll be in touch to see what will be done about the slight damage. I still love the product so I'm not giving up. Worst thing is the noise!

The Best
This is my third Eheim pump in twelve years and I am very happy with it. I have a 55 galoon tank and I had a three chamber first, replace it with a two chamber six years later. When the handle broke on it I got another three chamber one which I like much better. Robert Kelly

Great Product
Great product. I had it for almost 3 years. The only problem is that the shut-off valves can break easily. You need to be careful when cleaning the unit.

repeat buyer
This is my third Eheim ECCO Canister Filter; I broke one. I have two set up on my aquarium and I love the quiet operation and the ease of cleaning. With arthritic hands, I would prefer they had a button prime, or something a bit easier than the pump handle, but if I break one of these, I will purchase another. The best I've tried so far without getting into the really expensive setups.

Excellent Canister Filter
The construction and craftsmanship of this filter is top notch. It looks like Eheim took the time to design the filter and not just slap together generic filter parts. The filter worked great out of the box. Instructions were clear and easy to follow. The illustrations also helped with the setup. The box conatins a fine and a course filter pad. It also comes with free media which is enough to fill the media baskets. Operation is smooth and silent. I can barely hear the pump running. This may be discomforting at times because I frequently have to come up close just to verify the pump hasn't failed. But this is something I can definitely live with! Maintenance of the filter was simple. The handle made it easy to carry the filter around. No screws are used to secure parts that needed to be clean frequently. Most parts just snap on and off or slide into place. This allow for a quick and easy service. These parts seem durable and don't feel flimsy or sloppy so I don't see a problem in them breaking off anytime soon. The impeller assembly was easy to remove and clean. The only thing that I might dislike were the green hoses. I wish they were a darker color so they don't stand out in my tank. But this is just my opinion and totally subjective. I guess you could hide it with plants or some decorations. I have a 40 gallon breeder tanks and the 2236 works perfectly for it. I have the fitler for about 4 months now and have not had any issues. Base on previous experiences with other Eheim's products and filters I am expecting that this filter will last for a long time. I would definitely recommend this product.

OVER THE MOON HAPPY
Love my new Eheim ECCO filter. My 30 gal tank is so good, I've never seen the water this clean and clear with the filter. Clause and Briggit (my split tail pot belly gold fish and Red cap Oranda) are so so happy. Should have bought an Eheim ECCO filter in the beginning. I lost one of my favorite orange and white patch gold fish (Popper) due to dirty water. He had a great personality and would pop air to tell me to feed him and used to frolic through the tank. I miss him. Love this Eheim ECCO filter. Thank you so much.
