Orthophosphates are found in natural and wastewaters. They are commonly added to drinking water as a corrosion inhibitor. The instantaneous analysis of orthophosphate by colorimetric determination provides rapid results using a standard analysis technique.

The HANNA HI713 Checker HC bridges the gap between simple chemical test kits and professional instrumentation. Chemical test kits are not very accurate and only give only a few resolution points while professional instrumentation can cost hundreds of dollars and can be time consuming to calibrate and maintain. The HANNA HI713 Checker HC is accurate and affordable.

The HI713 Checker HC portable handheld colorimeter features a resolution of 0.01 ppm (250 points) and ±0.04 ppm (mg/L) ±4% of reading accuracy. The HI713 Checker HC uses an adaptation of Standard Method 4500-P E, Ascorbic Acid method.

The HI713 Checker HC is extremely simple to use. First, zero the instrument with your water sample. Next, add the reagents. Last, place the vial into the Checker HC, press the button and read the results. It’s that easy.

Easy, fast and accurate

Pros: Easy, accurate

Cons: Might need to buy the low range reader too

Every one told me this was the one to have to check my phosphates. Now, I agree . Previously I was using Red Sea’s , but this one is easier

Love Hanna products

Pros: Easy to follow steps. Has the timer built in so I don't have to keep up with it manually.

Cons: Wish it were cheaper but I prefer quality so quality comes at a price and one I'm willing to invest.

I have most all of the Hanna testers and keep both freshwater and saltwater tanks. With the phosphate checkers I can keep my phosphates checked and inline with so much more ease every week. I always set everything up completely before turning the tester on down to cutting the powder packet open and having it ready to pour in as soon as it's time. I always wear gloves and keep the vial wiped down with a cloth to make sure I get an accurate reading each time. As long as you follow the rules for their testers to the T you will always get an accurate result.

Great Tester!

Pros: Easy to use and accurate

This is a very precise and excellent tester.

A little advice that the instructions do not tell you. This tester comes with two Cuvettes. Fill both to 10ml with sample water. Leave one with just sample water and the other premix with reagant. If you try to mix reagant during the test then you will run out of time and the tester will reset. I premix the reagant for a couple minutes before performing the test. This will lead to an easy and accurate test everytime.

Easy to use!

Pros: Easy to use

Cons: Not enough reagents with Kit, instructions do not account for sleep timer on product

This checker is easy to use! The only negatives I would stay are:
1. The actual kit only comes with 6 packs of reagents. You need to immediately buy more.
2. The sleep timer between c1 and C2 is too short. In order to make this work, you need to mix up your test sample with the reagent BEFORE starting the process and then it is super easy. It’s a little confusing in the beginning as the instructions tell you an order that actually don’t work as the device shuts off between c1 and c2 with the time you need to mix the reagent.

Other than those two things which are surmountable, it’s a great test!

No more matching colors!

Pros: Easy to use

Cons: Turns off quickly

This little checker is worth every penny! No more trying to match colors. The little packets of powder are kind of tricky to work with so I like to get everything prepped before I turn on unit as it turns off kind of fast if you aren’t ready to go.

Love the digital readout

Pros: Digital readout

Cons: Times off too quickly, individual powder packets are easy to spill

Easy enough to use, love the digital readout instead of comparing colors. Wish the powder reagent came in a vial with spoon instead of individual packets, which are hard to empty without spilling. Wish it didn’t time down so quickly, as if you delay in any of the steps it shuts down and you have to start over, wasting reagents, money, and time. I recommend getting everything set up/opened ready to go before you turn it on.
