Super glue + nano

Pros: Remove surface film cheaply.

Cons: You have to super glue it yourself.

I first purchased the nano M.S.S. for a four gallon AIO heavily planted tank, and with a little super glue it has been working great. Besides removing the occasional film it, it allowed me to effectively raise the water level in the display area without effecting the filtration compartments. I like it so much i just ordered the larger one for a new IM Nuvo 10.

it works

I have a 12g cube masters nano tank and was able to adapt this surface skimmer. It works as intended staying in place just by force of the water draining, however, I have a big Mexican turbo snail wandering the tank and it worried me that it might knock the skimmer down so I set mine in place with some aquarium silicone. I had to modify the skimmer slightly by trimming away some of the back side face on one of the sides so that it would fit more flush against the back wall.

does exactly what it claims

I don't know what I was expecting, but I was certainly surprised when I took this out of the package and it was a molded piece of transparent plastic. It fits perfectly over the intake grill, and just like the package promises, water pressure alone keeps it in place. As far as I can tell, the skimmer raises the surface of the water a bit and redirects the flow down from the open teeth into the intake grill (I'm sure someone with a degree in physics could explain this more elegantly!). The result is a slight increase in turbulence and surface clearance. In my tank, the surface of the water cleared up in about 10 minutes, and it has stayed clear. It's a nice, simple fix for what seems to be a design flaw in the tank.

Modular Surface Skimmer

I install the Modular Surface Skimmer in my Aqueon Evolve 8 gallon aquarium, and work fine removing the surface scum, just like I was expecting. Thanks!
