Kessil's AP9x has redesigned LED chips and optics along with updated, more versatile software and built-in Wifi connectivity. The AP9X represents the combination of Kessil's best features, in a lighting package perfectly suited to a variety of mixed reef systems. The Kessil AP9X is the culmination of all of the recent technological advancements from one of the most popular LED aquarium light manufacturers in the hobby.

Kessil is known for leading in multichip LED light tech. Excellent spectrum-blending qualities and balanced light spread has been something we and many hobbyists have come to count on from them. Kessil's patented Dense Matrix Array packs 55 LED chips into a space smaller than a quarter. With 110 LED chips between two arrays, the AP9X has the best color mixing in the industry - no diffuser necessary and no disco-ball effect! The latest iteration of Kessil’s Dense Matrix array places the chips closer than ever before. More chips in a tighter space results in better color mixing and a brighter single point source - just like the Sun on a natural coral reef. The redesigned optics provide an even light distribution that blankets your aquarium with up to 48” of coverage and can provide useful PAR levels as deep as 30" below the surface. This uniform coverage minimizes hotspots and creates an effect similar to that of a metal halide / T5 combo.

PAR Efficient

PAR measures all visible light, but coral health primarily relies on the 425nm (violet) and 455nm (royal blue) wavelengths. Kessil LED output focuses on these essential wavelengths, prioritizing coral growth and propagation over inflated total PAR numbers. More efficient LED chips and better heat management result in less energy being lost as heat. This means more light for your reef with the same power draw.

Spectrum

In addition to Kessil’s signature Tuna Blue spectrum, the AP9X gives you access to the full range of individually adjustable color channels (red, green, purple) which can be accessed via the Kessil app. Kessil Logic ensures that cosmetic color settings won't interfere with the core spectrum, allowing users to dial in their preferred color settings without affecting coral health. The AP9X also includes 395nm LED chips, which emit True UVA light for maximum coral pigment fluorescence.

Sleek yet Robust

The AP9X sports a newly redesigned heat sink and an efficient vortex fan that reduces the accumulation of dust and debris - extending longevity and enhancing efficiency. With design elements inspired by marine fauna, high-performance automotive engineering, and the sun itself, the AP9X boasts a sleek, unobtrusive profile with an aesthetically pleasing touch panel. Not just a box of LEDs— the AP9X compliments the natural beauty of a well-maintained aquarium.

Advanced Dimming

Mimic natural day/night cycles and lunar phases with smooth dimming down to 0.1%—from a gentle sunrise to the faintest moonlight.

Kessil Ecosystem

With two K-Link and two 0-10V control ports, the AP9X can be easily wired to adjacent Kessil fixtures. Lights in a wired group can then be app-controlled via the AP9X’s WiFi connection. A single AP9X can act as the wireless access point for up to 32 X-Series lights and 20 0-10V lights.

K-Link + WiFi

Don’t want WiFi signals or interference? Multiple-fixture setups can be controlled via individual WiFi connections or daisy-chained together to access up to 32 lights via one master fixture. Turn off the WiFi and control the AP9X with the built-in manual controls or the Spectral Controller X.

Mounting Options (sold separately)

The AP9X can be supported over your tank through a couple of mounting options.

The new AP9X Mounting arm supports the fixture with a single arm, and the integrated swivel joint allows for 60 degrees of vertical rotation and 180 degrees of horizontal rotation.

The LED Light Panel Hanging Kit  allows you to hang your AP9X from your ceiling or even within your canopy and provides enough cable for an 8 foot drop, as well as the necessary suspension hardware.

Product Questions

What is the distance between the two light “pucks”? My tank has a center brace and I don’t want it to cause shade. Thanks.
Question by: Jesse on Jul 26, 2022, 7:22 AM
Hey there,
Thank you for reaching out to us. They are 9.5" apart.

Please let me know if you need anything further and take care!

Is there a separate connecting wire required to run 2 Ap9x's or does the App control both?
Question by: Ron Gantz on Jun 21, 2022, 3:34 PM
Hey there,
Thanks for the inquiry. Multiple AP9X (up to 32 K-Link fixtures) can be connected using "Kessil WiFi" app and K-Link Cables. Only the master AP9X should have Wi-Fi signal turned on (Wi-Fi indicator (B) is ON), Wi-Fi signal on the other fixtures should be OFF. Would reference the manual with the link below and please let us know if you have any further questions. Happy Reefing!

What is the minimum height I can mount the light and still have the 48" coverage? (Stuck inside a canopy have about 8-10")
Question by: Paul on Feb 23, 2022, 6:59 PM
Hey Paul! The BRS Recommended mounting height was tested to be 10" from the water's surface over a 24" x 24" area but that does create a hotspot toward the middle of the tank. If you're using the light over a tank measuring 36" - 48" long, you can raise the light up as high as 15" from the water's surface to get the spread and reduce the severity of the concentration of higher PAR toward the middle.

Hello

I wanted to know if I could mount this light using two of the Kessil tank mount arms that I currently have on my AP700. I cannot use the single arm as my overflow box would be in the way.

Thank you

Mark
Question by: Mark on Jul 15, 2020, 1:05 PM
Hi there!

Thank you for reaching out to us! The mounts for the AP700 do not work on the newest AP9X, you have to get the mounts for that.

Take care!
